How to Polish Your Aluminum Parts with a Drill Press

After grinding down the welds, my forearms are not in the mood to polish anything. After working a night shift, and coming home to work on some Spengler filler tubes, and I had a stroke of genius- why not use the drill press as a polishing device? This would not only work with steel wool as seen in the video, but sandpaper prior to painting as well.

I would NOT recommend attempting this with a regular drill (cord or no cord). It’s much easier to steady your hand on the part exactly where you want it while its spinning on the drill press. I have the drill press set to it’s lowest setting for safety’s sake. I have not attempted this with resin yet.

The way I use to hold the part in the chuck is I first start with a 1/4-20 shcs. I thread it into the bottom, but don’t tighten it all the way. After partially tightening the chuck onto the screw, I twist the part onto the screw while simultaneously tightening the chuck. Enjoy!
