Hey there,
there’s plenty of choices avaliable from them for sound and light (want both on my pack), and i’m not sure going deluxe all the way is necessary the best option… so what did you guys get, and does it suffice you?
Hey there,

While I don’t doubt that hyperdyne make quality lights and sound boards, there are a number of equally good light and sound kits offered by members of our community, you’ll find them listed in the for sale section. Couple off the top of my head, Exoray does both light and sound, there’s R2D-somethingorother who’s offering pack lights, myself, I got Proptronix pack and light kits and they’re fantastic, come with a lot of options, fading vent lights, power save functions, alternative start up sequences. He’s in the middle of beta testing his sound board but there already is a sound kit available thats compatible with his lights. What I’m saying is if you look around, you’ll probably find much cheaper alternatives that will provide the same results. What’s also gonna help a lot is that more people on this community have these kits than hyperdyne, you’ll find a lot of help on how to wire them and install them. Hope this helps
I’m looking to get some Proptronix stuff as from what i’ve seen its pretty good, and i was going to build my own but after pricing up the bits i need and taking into consideration how i’ll be a learner and how good proptronix’s kits seem its only logical to go that route for me
I was looking at the Hyperdyne kits myself, and if you want to get the whole package with light and sound, that is a good way to do it all in one integrated setup. I e-mailed them and asked what I would need to get, and this is the reply I got back:
“If you are looking for all lights and sounds in your pack, the best deal is the integrated light/sound controller board with the economy sound module. With those 2 kits you have everything you need for lights and sounds in the pack. Plus it is our newest and fullest featured kit. You only need the one board to control everything. The proton pack light kit is redundant and is offered as a piecemeal kit for those looking for light kits for parts of their packs. If you are starting fresh and want everything the integrated board is the way to go. Plus just add in the economy sound module and it is plug and play with the integrated board and gives you all the sound features of our deluxe sound kit..”
I hope that helps!
I’m going to tell you right now proptronix! He has a very easy set up,top quality and I know about his sound kit first hand! If you have his pack and gun light kit and decide on getting his sound kit it’ll be plug and play set up very very easy! Plus he stands behind his kits 100%! He’s prices are very cheap and you won’t believe his sound kit price it will floor you,the good way! The sound kit is still in the works, hoping it won’t be much longer!
If your looking for lights and sounds, have basic soldering skills, have about $150.00 or so to blow on supplies, and can wait 1 to 2 months check here:
Do you know what sounds will be included? start up, fire, shut down? Vent sound? Theme song? Is it customisable? Sorry to bombard but I’ve been waiting for details on his sound kit, I’ve been holding out for one but dang, that sound thread is convincing me otherwise!
Thats a good question. I sent Proptronix a letter about 1/2 a year ago. He had asked me questions about the sound kit I owned from another member on the board. The question was, what did I like, and what did I not like. I’m sure that he got information from other users to begin the design and layout of an integrated electronics suite. I think his lights are amazing, very small, compact, durable and energy efficient. Hopefully the sound kit will be similar. I may even build a new pack using his stuff, just for fun.
Not sure how I feel about Hyperdyne. Their system was installed in the pack I got from Slimer7, and the damn thing just crapped out on me. No sound anymore, and it’s not the speakers. The lights still work, so that’s something I guess.
It went from working fine, to fading in and out, to being crackly AND fading, to this:
All in the space of about 45 minutes. Now it makes no sound at all. I’ve checked the speakers, they’re still working fine. It’s the sound card that’s borked. And I’m not shelling out hundreds of dollars for a new one from hyperdyne. Shit.
Replica Prop’s sound board for the win!

See the thread on this setup here on the Proton Pack boards…

Also, my retraction: Hyperdyne kit turned out not to be borked, the battery just died on me, at the worst possible moment. A full charge on the battery and its working just as well as before, and sounds great.
Start up,fire, shutdown and yes you will be able to customize what sounds you want!
These sound and light kits are nothing short of amazing. Too rich for my wallet, but amazing nonetheless. ![]()
I have a “beta” board I guess from hyperdyne, for the blue light bar and the 4 cyclotron lights. Has worked flawlessly for several years. Even if it was sold as a reject board.
Half price FTW!!!
I would love to add some thump to my pack, but I haven’t worked (real job) in years and side jobs aren’t steady paychecks.
I’m going to echo the sentiment on proptronix kits. From my limited experience so far, he went to a lot of work to try and get it to be accurate (even to where one LED only lights at start up to be screen accurate, granted, I didn’t realize that). In addition, his kits are definitely easy to set up. With very limited electronic experience, I’ve been able to wire them up and have them work, along with re-wire the switches for sound.
When it comes to sound, I will suggest the Replica Props kit. Mainly because it’s the only one I have experience with, and I kinda like it. I will say though that you have to be extraordinarily careful with the sound chips and how everything is wired up. One screw up, and you fry the sound chip. I did that twice, and it is a very costly mistake.
EXACTLY why I was so worried I’d borked the Hyperdyne kit the other day. Thank god it was just a battery issue.
I am going to get a Proptronix I think…thanks for the advice everyone !
I met hyperdyne at a local convention and he was a huge dick, so that kind of gives me a bias, but I’ve heard good stuff about Proptronix. If you’ve got some DIY skills and interest in tinkering though, Arduino based light kits are a lot of fun to work on. If coded right, a single arduino should be able to handle gun/pack lights and sound flawlessly.
hypers gear is very expensive too
id go with exoray you cant really go wrong
