Well I finally managed to get a hold of a hearse/ambulance to make an Ecto-1 replica out of.
It’s a 1971 Cadillac Superior ambulance. The person that was selling it thought it was a hearse but it has all the switches and labels and life support meaning it was an ambulance.
I paid $400 cash for it.I drove it home today and it has a bad front end,so I have to shell a lil money out now to make it a good driveable vehicle.
I’ve got all the pics taken I just have to post em up for you guys.
I’d like to know what type of barlights are on the Ecto along with the name and brand of the siren.
I’m very excited to have an ambulance to finally make an Ecto-1.
Theres a long ass tread on GBC about the type of light bars and misc stuff. Just look for Chad post on his 59 caddy and you’ll see. Now its time for me to do a rant…
I hope you have a shit load of money saved up. If I was in your place I would restore the Superior to its glory days cause they go for a lot of money know compare to an Ecto replica would make. 70s Professional cars are slowly raising in value that’s why i say that. Plus if you paid 400 bucks then it has a lot of shit wrong with it. Make sure you check the floor boards, rocket panels and expessly under the car. I could go on but im not so im going to be a nice guy and shut up.
river_of_slime’s right. IF you Only paid $400 for such a car its most likely good for nothing but parts. in this mans opinion. either the guy who sold it to you was either A) crazy or B) beyond desperate to get rid of the damn thing to the point that he had may as well given it away.
but hey, i could be wrong! you couldve simply been in the right place at the right time and got a great price on a good car. but ive seen some ambulances/hearses in absolute horrible shape go for much more. if you could please provide some pics tha’d be great too. because this all seems a little far fetched to me.
The car belonged to the couple’s daughter, and she’s moving to Canada show she isn’t gonna pay to ship it.The damn thing runs really well, and yes it has it share of body work that needs to be done.
I’m gonna slowly turn it into the Ecto,I know it’s not gonna happen overnight.
Chuck, the things you said have already been repaired.I’m gonna inspect the hell out of em though and if I find a flaw then I will refix em.
back,I’ve got the pics taken I just have to upload em when I get home.
Again I’ll say IT NEEDS EXTENSIVE BODY WORK,but my uncle is gonna help doing it so it won’t take so long.
dont be too sure about that one, weve all seen many caddy restorations around here. if you mean “it shouldnt take long” i hope you mean a year plus and thousands of dollars later!
My uncle’s career before he got into a bad car accident was doing auto body repair and painting.
As far as the money,my parent’s are paying for it because the car is actually my birthday gift. They are paying to restore it and paint like the Ecto, but I’m the one that is gonna have to do all the work and make the roof stuff for it.
Anywho here is the pics:
Keep in mind this is a 1971 Cadlliac Superior and not the 1959 Cadlliac Miller Meteor.
“Everybody can relax, I found the car. Needs some suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end…also new rings, mufflers, a little wiring. Only $4800!” 8)
Seriously though, good luck! Looks like a lot of work and a lot of fun.
Thanks guys.Yea there’s a good bit of work that needs to be done on her,but I’m gonna do it and then convert her to an Ectomobile, not quite sure which one yet though.
RPMs,the body only has rust on it,other than that there is no dents on it,it has never been wrecked. The engine is strong running and the only other problem i have with her is that my engine transmission bracket is bent,so I have to find a replacement.
I didn’t mean to offend you UltimateGBfan, if I did so. Just meant to say that there’s a lot of work ahead of you. I only wish I could have a car to transform into an Ecto-1 replica. Congratulations on your new car and good luck propping!
Yeah.. I got all the way through high school before my dad and I finished ours and we did all the work ourselves.. engine, paint & body work, built all the stuff on the roof. Took a long time.
It’s not easy, you’ll get sick of it after a while but it really pays off in the long run. Just keep with it and make sure you have a lot of money to blow.
I’ve spent more time and money maintaining my car than I did building it.
