So I’m looking to hopefully add the injector tube “L” bracket into my build this weekend to help add more support to the injector tubes. I did a bunch of searching the last few days but couldn’t find much really on this. I’m wondering do we have a general consensus between us on the site as to what the measurements/placement of the bracket is?
There isn’t much on it and I don’t think every movie pack had the bracket. I plan to put one on as well. Most people guess that they used the same kind of bracket that they used to hold the shell onto the motherboard. Granted, even the type of brackets they used from pack to pack may be different. So perhaps buy a 5th one identical to whatever you used already.
hmmmm… well I cut my angle brackets from a 2 foot piece of 2x2x1/8th aluminum, so each leg is an even 2"x2" square. I’m pretty sure that the angle bracket from the injectors isn’t square. It looks to me that the leg of the L bracket that attaches to the shell is shorter than the leg that comes off the shell attaching to the injector tubes. plus it seems like it may only be between 1 and 1.5 inches wide. I could be wrong as there aren’t many good reference shots. Maybe ill just have to use a good educated guess, cut my own strips of aluminum and just bend them myself to the size I think fits the reference photos best.
Have you been to a hardware store,most hardware stores carry different sizes!
Yea I went and rummaged around the home depot and the local true value hardware. They both had tons of L brackets but none of them were asymmetrical. All the brackets I saw were symmetrical. It’s no biggy I’ll just design up my own I have access to a huge bin full of aluminum scraps all shapes and sizes.
I can’t imagine an off-the-shelf L bracket (other terminology seems to be “corner iron” or “corner brace”) with pre-drilled holes having those holes in the exact perfect locations. Unless the prop-makers used an off-the-shelf bracket and they positioned the tubes based on the holes in the bracket instead of the other way around. But I doubt it.
Yea I fully agree, that’s why I’ll just make my own. I was just hoping, more or less, that someone might know some close specs for the bracket.
I also plan on countersinking the hols into the bracket so I can just drill some wood screws right into the injector tubes and have the screws not really be able to be seen. Might even magic sculpt over them to completely hide them, just not sure how that will look against the aluminum. Well see I guess. I’ll include everything I do into my build thread.
there arent really any specs, just cut the bracket to fit the area. I used the same thing i used for the pack-mobo brackets seen in my thread.
i originally had mine riveted to the shell then epoxied to the injectors to simulate a weld and it eventually broke loose but it broke off clean so i simply drilled and attached rivets to the injectors too.
I think the consensus was that a) it’s not on all packs b) it was probably a GB2 addition.
However I’ve not seen a clear reference shot of it (just an out of focus one) did I miss that and we do have one?
There probably isn’t a good reference shot of it, as it is almost unnoticed under the ribbon cable. Whether it was only for GB2 I don’t know, but either way I think it’s a good thing to have because without it, the injector tubes are long dangly grabbits.
I guess - mine are bolted nice and securely to the inside of my pack - I can pick up the pack by them easily.
I actually kinda like that they are separate - gives a more complex feel to the pack in a way.
But depending on how they are attached - the l-bracket does make sense.
I actually scoured the reference photos looking for this, but wasn’t able to see anything, though it seem like a wise thing to do.
It’s in one of them, but it’s not a clear shot - it’s not very well shown. It’s also NOT in other shots of the same area on different packs.
So… you know, not a omg!accurate thing you have to do. It was probably added on one pack that was a little weak.

Mine are lag bolted to the inside of my pack as well but with a fiberglass shell if I was to turn around and bump a doorway or like someone else said little kiddys grabbing them or whatever there not gonna hold up. The way I see it every little bit helps.
The packs that the bracket has been observed on are both GB1 Hero packs that were re-fitted for GB2 so the brackets were likely there in GB1.
There are no clear shots of the bracket at this time. It can only barely be seen on the PH Minnesota Pack and the Hero Pack that was on display in the PH NY and later in the lobby at Sony Studios in California.
The PH MN hero pack doesn’t have the bracket, but the Sony LA hero does. It can be seen on Egon’s pack before they get on the elevator I believe. So it’s not an across the board thing for sure. It provides a lot more stability over the long term though. I put one on the pack I was working on.
You can be accurate with or without though so I’d say to tailor it to your build, especially if you need the strength.
I really like the addition of the putty to make it look welded though - that’s a really nice touch.
So it sounds like it’s one of those fantastically fun/frustrating pack variations. Yay fun. I’d be interested in seeing if we can find it in GB1 as Namebrand says. I’d not heard that before.
The fact that it is on (some) the packs we see now (even ones that were used in GB1) doesn’t make it a GB1 thing - as all the packs were refitted for GB2…
