(the 1/12 model can be printed as one chunk, minus the “dump handle”… the 1/6 model has to be printed in pieces, and the main back board is too large for the build platform, but is easy enough to cut from a piece of acrylic or wood, if I don’t print it in 2 pieces)
Your idea doesn’t suck that much. The 1/12 scale would be good for those who did not get the Walter Peck figure and want to tuck one into a Kenner Firehouse. The 1/6 scale should be even more popular. About how much would they cost?
Not sure on cost yet. If it sounds like people are genuinely interested, I can make some improvements to the models (adding door innards or other features).
Since there’s a fairly readily available 1/12 model (with Peck figure), it sounds like this might be an effort focused on the 1/6 model… which is cool, because with it being larger, it would benefit more from any improvements.
Could a slot be made in the door to accommodate a cut paperclip? That would give you strong hinge pegs, everyone can get them easily ( or they could be included with the kits), and they could be inserted in the back while the door is closed.
Maybe add a slight lip to keep it shut?
Also, is there any chance of clear inserts where the console lights are, so it could be lit with leds? I know I’d want to add basic lights to mine.
I’m thinking I could add a hollow bore “hinge” to the bottom of the door and face of the main body to allow a piece of wire to be used as a hinge… similar to how the ECU packaged with the Peck figure works… Slight friction from the lip or side of door innards would keep the door closed. Yeah, that might work… I’ll have to experiment.
As far as lights or LEDs… The kit will essentially be printed ABS plastic components which can be customized to the limit of the builder’s imagination and skill. There are endless possibilities with building up the unit with whatever lights, decals, or other details the builder can imagine. I want to see what people can do with this kit. Heck, I might even buy one of my kits back from an expert builder, if they do something awesome with it that I can’t resist.
