Ok I need everyone?s opinion. I?m making a GB2 pack to match my uniform. Although I prefer a Clean pack to a weathered pack. I?m just weird I guess. I?ve come to think about the Ion Arm. In Gb1 its silver, but in GB2 its black but weathered silver,and I don’t want to only weather one peice, it would look odd. Obviously Keeping it black is the easiest, and silver is incorrect. Do you think there is a happy medium. I don?t feel like making this thing twice just to see which one looks better.Any ideas?
Maybe make it different than other proton packs? Maybe paint it copper color?

It makes it look real and used. The Ion Arm is aluminum and brass, BTW.

I weathered my pack, but used brushed aluminum for the metal part of the ion arm. I was really happy with the way it came out. Let me know if you want some up close pics of it, or just check here - http://www.gbprops.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1993
My pack is weathering on its own and I fix it was soon as I see it. I’m a fan of the clean “Hotel scenes” pack. I’ve seen too many packs with way over done weathering and it looks like it’s been sitting outside in a junk yard for 50 years. If you’re into that kind of weathering, build a prop from “My Science Project.”
All the ones I’ve seen (as best as I can remember), people have either gone with silver or weathered black. You could just go fresh black and it would be different…
In GB2, when they meet Peter at the museum, try and look at the pack Winston puts on. The paint on it looks really fresh, but I don’t recall what the ion arm looked like. But check out that scene, it might give you an idea of what the ion arm looks like on a “fresh” pack.
I’m like you…I want my packs to have that “courtroom scene” look to them. So I take a piece of 1/2" thick black plastic, and then gently rub a little silver paint along the edges, so it looks like you’re peeking through to see the metal underneath. But it still retains the overall black color. Sort of a reverse on the general concensus from what a pack should look like. But hey- I like to be different.
In GB1 the Ion Arm is most certainly painted black with minor weathering. It is really noticable in the Hotel scenes. Look here…
That is pretty much the effect I went for on my pack as you can see here. A clean pack can have a little weathering on it and not look odd.
In the end though, it really comes down to what you are going to be happiest with, it is your pack after all.
Real light weathering should be fine thanx guys.

Yes the knob is way whacked in that scene…
To my memory, the close-up shots of the packs in GBII showed the ion arms to be brass colored.. But what I used for my ion arm was a piece of copper-plated grounding rod.
