I have a question. It’s been 4 years - 2007 to 2011 - and I think it’s about time to wash the old flight suit. Problem is that I’ve been afraid that the no-ghost logo’s red will run and turn my suit pink. It’s sewn on permanent. The name tag comes off because it’s Velcro (I did this in case I ever sold the suit). It’s too big for me now that I’ve lost wait and I don’t have the time or passion like I once did to wear it, but … I still don’t want my current flight suit to get ruined. I ain’t got the money for a new suit and my local army/navy surplus store closed down a couple years ago. And I just got one of those ghost traps for crying out loud, lol. I’m hoping to do the costume thing again some year in the future. By the way, anyone close to the Triad/Piedmont of North Carolina? Would be awesome to start a group (mine is more or less defunct or hibernating or on hiatus or something) … or add to the group I already started? Anyway…
So, any advice? Will the no-ghost logo run and ruin my flight suit? What should I do? Thanks!
I practically wear my suit on a regular basis for events and conventions (i’ve slept in the damn thing) and i wash it constantly, because it can get kinda gross . I wash it on a normal cycle. the name badge and such was fine (however i did removed the velcro no ghost patch). The only problem i encountered was the leg hose connector ripping off, but i’ve since fixed that problem.
Cool. I can’t remove my no-ghost patch though. It’s sewn right on (and it was darn hard to do, too! As a matter of fact, too hard for me, so I got someone with sewing experience to finish it. I think they used a machine?). I unfortunately never knew how to do the leg hose (is that a pee hose? Always wondered), so my flight suit doesn’t have one. Instead I fake it and it hangs off of the belt to create the illusion that I have one. Anyway, guess I’m going to wash the thing. So what if it’s a little pink, right? I ain’t wearing it much these days anyway.
Who’s patches are on your suit? Ours are Katarra8 patches and nametags. No trouble washing them. In the two years we have been around, the flightsuits have gone in the wash couple of times. No issues there. I’d say that the patches from GBFans shop does not run either.
And, you can always wash the suit with cold water, by hand. That reduces the possibility of color running.
i used to wash my try-specs at home but all the edges started to curl and it started to fade fast, i just bring it to the cleaners every so often and get it dry cleaned and they come out awesome
I have both JoJo’s name tag and the no-ghost from the shop, and it came out fine from the wash. I didn’t put it in the dryer though, just to be on the safe side (plus it stayed nicely creased that way :D)
Dry cleaning or cold wash with no dryer, it is! Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions!
Oh, and I think it was Katarra8 patches, but it’s been so many years and it was a team member who found and purchased the patches, so although I watched him online do it, I’m not entirely certain. But I’m glad to hear that many of the patches haven’t ran red for you guys!
If you’re that worried about it, simply hand wash it in the laundry sink. That would be the gentlest way to go about it. Hang it out to dry in the sun and all is well.
