I’m a paranormal investigator and if you know anything about the science. We use EMF meters kind of like Egon used the PKE meter.
My qestion is, would it be possible to take a simple EMF meter like the K2 meter or the Ghost Meter, then somehow turn it into a “real working” PKE meter? Such as when the level of EMF raises, the PKE lights and sounds speed up.
I think it would be a neat addition to my arsenal of “toys” for ghost hunting.

I’m sure it’s possible, but… I think you’d be better off NOT doing this if you want to be taken seriously.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun and cool idea to do, but I just have a feeling that if someone saw you whip out a PKE Meter with working wings and all, your credibility would diminish rather quickly.

And only ghostbusters fans really know what a “Film PKE” looks like so. I don’t fully agree with the above post.

I would be concerned about how accurate the EMF meter would be after you remove it from it’s original shell and place it in a PKE. I’m sure there is some sheilding of the EMF meters own electrionics not to mention adding more leds or a servo for the wings. Not saying it couldn’t work just saying your results with it will always be suspect by others because you tampered with it. I’m sure if you added the appropriate sheilding to prevent EMF interferance it would work just fine and if it’s just for fun I’d say do it. I would love to see it.

I’m not too concerned about being taken too seriously with it. It wouldn’t be something that I would use all the time. Just a little toy to pull out to lighten the mood, because I think that some investigation teams take themselves too seriously. We aim to be professional, but we keep it pretty light-hearted.
As for the accuracy, I think there could be a way you could use the same housing it’s built with. Especially if you use a Lutron digital EMF meter or even the Ghost meter. They are already black and have the same basic shape as the PKE. It wouldn’t be an exact replica, but it would be close.
As for building it…well…I’m not that technically gifted. If I tried to build it, it would probobly be broken pretty quick.

I can see where it would be a good idea for an, “Automatic” servo activation, but it would take a lot of electronics to do such a thing. You’d have to special-make a PCB to fit in a movie style meter shell, use lots of microcontroller parts, and somehow power it without taking up too much space or messing with the EMF detectors basic functions. It would prove to be a challenging and expensive venture, if I were to hazard a guess.

Paranormal investigation is not science. It is at best organized skepticism.
As a guy who was in a TAPS Family Group, there is one thing I hated above hecklers: The guys who showed up wearing Ghostbusters shirts, claiming to be paranormal investigators. I realize that this is slightly different, in that it’s a PKE meter, but trust me, most anyone who has seen Ghostbusters will recognize the meter, and on a personal level, if I saw anyone whip a PKE meter out, I would lose all faith in said group. Now on the other hand, if I saw someone with a PKE meter that wasn’t trying to be credible, I’d go over and congratulate them on a great idea.
I was toying with that idea for 2 years, but as I said, I would imagine all credibility flying out the window, and justifiably so.
I say go for it, you’re a paranormal investigation group, you have no credibility to begin with.

This is what I have decided to do with my PKE to be ready before next october. I think it is totally possible and am going to attempt it.
i agree with dan, the day i see slimer or gozer coming after me i wont think looking for ghosts in the real world is ridiculous.. but it hasn’t happened yet. however, if you can convince stupid people to give you money for pretending to look for something than by all means go for it!
Credibility is of no concern here, the majority of people who see our modern ecto assume we are bonafide investigators. I’m almost ready to modify my vinyl to say “We are not ready to believe you”
So, in the interest of flashy lights and keeping to the topic, I’ve thought for a while about gutting a K2 meter and making it into an EMF reactive belt gizmo. Place one of the LED’s into each tube and use the K2’s circuit board in place of the calculator board.
There’s not a lot inside of one of these, so a creative person miiight be able to fit one in a custom iona shell.

What they label as the “senser” is clearly a microprocessor. I see that, some resistors, capacitors, and a button. Anyone know what an EMF antennae looks like??
just out of morbid curiosity, where did you get that k2 meter so cheap that it’s ok to take apart? ive been eyeballing k2 meters, but ive never seen anything less than 60, and there’s no way i could justify to myself taking something that expensive apart.
You have to take it apart to change the battery. Granted, the batteries last years, we used one as a “budget” pke for a couple years before matty came out with theirs. It’s still on it’s origional 9v.
Best place I know to get them is ebay, but it seems prices are up $20-30 since they became a popular item.
You’d think that with countless shows on pretty much every channel now, with thousands of hours of footage. Not to mention, the non-show investigators. Someone would have stumbled into some proof of ghosts, enough have on CNN or something.
But there is nothing but guys walking around in the dark.
But hey, you have to have a hobby.
