Fellow Ghostheads, long time first time. I have waited years for my first post and here it is. I have been lurking around gbfans for quite sometime, even posted photos of my Foamcore pack/trap from half a decade ago. Time hasn’t been kind to the old equipment though.
So it is time to rebuild. First step a proper “Propper Project Book” and with a whole lot of ink I created this beauty full of plans from the site for quick reference.
So the great rebuild begins using mdf and Sean’s plans. Step one I built up the Shell (Twice… forgot to compensate for board width) and Battery Box (Once…Yay):
Then I moved onto the Cartridge. I also had to rebuild the back of the shell due to some calculation errors, I am all about measure once cut once measure and cut again. While I was waiting for glue to dry I gave the battery compartment a quick coat of primer and Bondo’d some seams.
Parts from Skycraft, I spent hours in there just drooling over all the goodies. If you haven’t heard of Skycraft it is a local Orlando electronics surplus store and it is awesome. I am going with a rounded switch as opposed to the screen accurate flat one. I’ll know, you’ll know and literally everyone else in the world won’t.
I cut out some al-you-minium for the side plates, may have to adjust the cartridge plate as my forward indicator has been my nightmare component on this build so far. I have build three different power indicators. Fun Times!
Bondo/sanding/primer/sanding/lather rinse repeat, you can also see my “current” forward indicator made from 1/8 inch styrene reallocated from work and of course more bondo, trap may be 98% bondo by the time I am done..
Definitely great work! I am looking forward to more on this! I have been trying everything I can to find the square front knobs. Could I persuade you to pick me some up if you make the trip back to the store? Maybe I’ll check their website… Great looking build so far!
Well… life got in the way. Soooo a year later I’ve started working on the trap again. Here is a quick photo update. I hope to have the trap wrapped up (minus lights and opening doors) in the next few days. Then I plan on beginning work on the pack rebuild.
I did some painting and assembling on the shell. Also rebuilt the forward indicator and cartridge. I feel much better about both now.
Can’t wait to get back in the garage and get more work done.
