Maybe they will use the “alternate dimension” thing from Dan’s original idea. That is the only way this could work. The connective continuity marvel model has been all the rage and that is the only way I can see them making this work. If they pretend like the other movies never happened & discard Dan’s beautiful mythology, I say we riot. But if there is some sort of alternate universe where Ray, Venkman and Winston still exist? That will soften the blow and perhaps a GB3 is possible

I for one am actually happy as f- with the casting. The movie we know as GB was not the movie they went to make. It was the actors writing and working together that brought something special to the film. That’s never going to happen again. Doing the sequel thing would be selling the film short by making it impossible to still have the chemistry that made GB what it is.
I’m not a McCarthy fan, but I’ve seen some stuff and laughed. It’s more physical humor than my taste, but her acting skills are as refined as Ernie’s (that’s not a jab, but sorry he’s not that great performance wise) and if she’s more supporting to the actresses who actually share a lot of that same instinct and abilities as Bill, Dan and Harold - I’m all for it. I don’t think people understand that when doing a film like this and continuing the spirit is that it won’t be until all the parts come together and you get that feedback from the actresses in terms of improv/writing ideas etc that the film will become what we will see. Much like the original concept of GB was literally out of this world, the current idea is just as ungrounded until they are in the muck of making the film.
As for the race thing, I’ll admit I laughed a little but it’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t thing. If they are more racially diverse then it’s accused of racial pandering. If they are all white, than it’s racist. I like all the SNL ladies, some I think are funnier than others. I like Leslie and I think she would do great in a more lead role and it won’t be some token-black thing.
But I don’t know, I’m turning 30 this year and got a daughter and the prospects of sharing GB with her has me pumped as hell.

How can you be happy? You’re happy we are getting an all female GB team for no other reason than to prove women can be funny? Feig has been hellbent on female comedy and brought that narrative, plugged it into a new GB film. It didnt happen organically or because they were the best characters the writer could come up with. “Female GB’s” was the starting point. Not story, not comedy not the audience. All just so Fieg can say “see! Look! Woman are funny!” And feel like he is a champion of female comedic actors. If they wanted to break new ground how about hiring a female director. That’s the biggest joke about this. There are plenty of talented female filmmaker’s yet here we go again, another white male trying to show the world what equality looks like. Women have always been funny but don’t screw with beloved characters and mythology

Had Feig cast an all male team and still made it a reboot I bet many here would be far less bitter about this movie.
I really love the “I’m not sexist but this is why a female cast sucks” crowd.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not entirely convinced about the all female crew so I’ll approach it with a very cautious but open mind.
I have a certain amount of hope in GB3 but modern day cinema is just pants.
Can Feig pull it off? I really hope so but I won’t get my hopes up too high.
It is good to see that a black person will continue Ernie’s role but how well will she perform???
It wouldn’t be any better with Ben Stiller, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Michael Cera, and Kevin Hart either. I think those were some of the names being thrown around at some point. This movie was probably doomed from the start. No matter what it won’t capture the magic of the original. All we know is that a new film is now in pre production. Like I have said before I bet Ghostbusters 2 is looking real good to the haters now.

People are ■■■■■■ because we want a linear, canon story. I would have been fine with 3 females and 1 male… that 1 male being Oscar Barrett-Venkman.

The issue is NOT female Ghostbusters. The issue is bulls*** reboot made by a director no one wants, which is nothing more than a “social progress” gimmick movie.

I personally have no problem with an all female cast, but dislike that it’s a reboot very much. I don’t give a ■■■■ about a Ghostbusters movie where Egon and company are erased from existence. However, I can’t stand Melissa McCarthy. I do wish that, regardless of gender, they would have put together a cast that had a long history with each other like the original Ghostbusters did before they made that movie.
Tom Waltz already expressed interest in keeping the IDW comics alive in the future whether it’s a third volume or mini-series of some sort:

I’m rather neutral on the whole matter. I’ve heard of Wiig and love McCarthy on Mike and Molly, but the director and rest of the cast I am clueless on. Guess I am an old dinosaur and not up on what is out these days. I’m hoping that the characters themselves are the point not that fact that it is women or men or a potted plant. No it is not the GB we are grew up and loved. Hollywood like most of anything now is way out of touch with reality, the fans, etc. They figure they can make bank on the franchise. If it flops oh well they made their money and write it off in some entertainment magazine as another flop or something like that. They generally don’t care what the fans really want. They have no heart for what has been established for 30 years. Just milk some money and move on. Every Hollywood hack thinks they can do better on an original, just continue on the endless cycle of “re-imagined” “reboot” “re-launch”. Regurgitate is more what it truly is. So much going back and forth is to be found on the SW panels, ST too for that matter. My feeling is I would see it because it is something I love. It probably will not be one of my favorites but who can say. It will still be in my collection. Just like Chainsaw part 4 has to be got to suffer the bad for the good. Hoping it will be a good film and until we all can see it we won’t really know. Not to mention with the way Hollywood is a whole new cast, director, story all could pop up by the end of the week. Like anything the originals will always be best.

I think if they went with a split cast of male and female it would just look like pandering to those who somehow can’t swallow an all female cast. They are going to ■■■■ off people no matter what, so I’d rather they go 100% with their idea then flip flop after the cries of the internet. And anyone who thinks that any sequel isn’t a cash grab is fooling themselves. Money is the end objective for all films, but that still doesn’t mean it can’t be a good film.
I think the SNL gals will have a good report with one another, and especially coming from SNL will have a better feel for the improv/writing than just some hired actresses. McCarthy is the one who I think has the most to prove, which maybe she can with the right co-stars where as her movies kind of put her more in a bumbling light. But like I said, Bill Dan and Harold all had the past which added to the chemistry, and Kristen, Kate and Leslie have that. If McCarthy is the Ernie of the bunch, I’m not going to lose sleep over it. Only the film will tell.
And I don’t by the Extreme GB comparison because that cartoon still played on the fact that Kylie was “a girl” with Eduardo making “women” type jokes. Janine as a GB was always just cartoon merchandising. As for keeping it cannon, there’s no way to do that without hurting the film. If the first films DID happen, then no one would give two s- about ghosts. They missed the chance to keep the momentum going with the same story. If the ghosts are to have any impact on a unsuspecting NYC - it needs to be something people aren’t aware of. GB being in existence for 30+ years just weakens the overall effect.

Is it sexist by watching men’s hockey games and not women? Is it sexist to prefer Coldplay over Adele? Come on man. Not every opinion is painted in black and white & don’t assume anything about someone’s opinion. My sister is just as big of GB fan as I am. Guess what? She hates this more than I do. You know why? Because it’s shoehorned. Even if a male character was pitched as a GB team member it wouldn’t happen because this is someone trying to prove a point rather than make a movie.
