Left 4 Dead....

A bit of a bump, but the Left 4 Dead 2 demo is supposed to go live today.

I had the early demo from my preorder.

Awesome stuff!

Same here, I am really starting to like the new stuff they added to the game. Like melee weapons, the Defibulator!

No argument that there’s some interesting new innovations they’re bringing in, but I’m still finding it hard to care about the new cast*, or the setting**

  • A interesting point was brought up in regards to why I’m probably finding it difficult getting attached to the new survivors beyond simply liking Bill, Zoey, Francis and Louis… is the ‘horror survival factor’. Zoey survived because she knows the rules, being a horror buff. Bill survived because he has his army and weapons training. Louis survived because he’s ■■■■■■ minded about making sure things return to normal, and Francis survived because he’s hard as nails.

Nick the grifter, and Ellis the mechanic could be worked out, I suppose… but how did Rochelle survive? Especially with all that exposed flesh of hers, you’d think she’d have gotten a bite long ago.

** The Deep South generally doesn’t interest me, to begin with, but the setting is additionally less appealing because they decided to take it from fictional ‘Anywhere, U.S.A.’ locations to New Orleans, which I feel takes a bit of the suspension of disbelief out of it…

I’m also not impressed with the UK varient cover, hand-gesture insult aside, it just doesn’t look as good compared to the shot of the hand from the back. I also thought it was silly that they couldn’t include those two ripped-off fingers.

So at the moment, L4D2 is not something we’re gonna be buying as soon as it hits the shelves.

…

My brother got Crash Course a week or so ago, and whilst it is fun, the shortness of it is unfortunate, as is “The Littlest Genocidist” achievement for how silly it is (how many times you’d have to play the campaign just to reach the total).

The funny part is that they aren’t ripped off. In the commercial you can clearly see all 4 fingers, just the Thumb missin’ like the first one.

I really like the fact that you play in the daylight in L4D2.

Not very zombie-movie like, though.

I was done with the first one in less then a week. No real interest in another short gamepalay experience. I’ll wait for the rumored week before christmas steam 50% off deal.

I have had this game pre ordered since it was announced almost a year ago now. I loved the first one, granted there were some thing that needed a little work but it looks like they have addressed everything I disliked about the first game with more weapons lots more weapons, more throwables, the adrenalin shot, the d-fib, 3 new special infected, uncommon common infected, ships with 5 maps that are all playable in vs mode, plus an entierly new game mode called scavange. There’s so much newness to this one how could anyone say no lol. I do agree the new characters are kinda wonky. Even with the first game I tried not to think of it as playing a character. I try to play through the game, more or less, like it’s myself trying to surrvive. Not many cooler end of the world senarios could happen other than a zombie apocolypse.

My brother and I played the demo, and this is what we felt:

  1. There are some nice new additions, such as the Adrenaline, defilb, more guns.

  2. We quickly identified which characters we liked, Nick and Rochelle. Coach isn’t very interesting, and Ellis is just freaking annoying.

  3. We. Hate. The. Spitter. There’s not enough warning of her showing up, to the point where she’ll just suddenly appear and do the damage to you… and the damage is so excessive. To quote Dragon’s Den, it’s for this reason that we’re out.

As if our faith to Left 4 Dead were rewarded by deciding we weren’t gonna get the sequel, my brother and I got the Untouchables achievement on Death Toll, with two bot-characters, which was plain awesome.

Really? The music changes for when a Spitter is around, just like when the Horde is called, the Witch is nearby, and just about everything else that happens in the game when a Special Infected is around. And just hopping out of the acid is an easy way not to take damage, lol. I’ve never had a problem with doing that at all, just bounce.

I don’t think that’s a reason not to get a game because you hate an enemy :whatever:

But hey, not my decision not to get the game, right? Just my 2 cents in there.

All the survivors are assumed to be immune.

I’ll give you partial credit on this one. No Mercy takes place in Fairfield, a fictional area of Pittsburgh. The rest of the game takes place around Pennsylvania.

The ring and pinky fingers are present in all versions of the cover, with the exception of the initial design, but the ESRB said it wouldn’t fly. The two fingers were added in.

Crash Course was designed primarily for a short Versus experience.

All of the special infected have unique musical cues. 2 each, judging by snooping in the demo files. Even if you can’t hear them vocalizing, the music will tell you that one has spawned nearby. The spitter exists mainly as a way to prevent the Survivors from camping in a corner. The damage she does alone is negligible. Special Infected will have to work in tandem if a spitter is going to take you out at all. The only way I can see a spitter taking anyone out alone is if they get surrounded by a large group of Common and she spits where they’re standing (in which case on higher difficulties you’re all but screwed anyway) or they stand idle in the acid.

That’s just awesome. 'Grats

See, what I was hearing, is they were looking at doing mini campaigns for the scenarios that take place between campaigns. Kinda so they all link together. For instance, after No Mercy, the helicopter crashes, and you get Crash Course, which then leads to Death Toll. Death Toll ends with you taking a boat, which links to Dead Air, because in the backround of the place you start in Dead Air is a dock. Dead Air leads to Blood Harvest, and from there it goes to the Lighthouse survivor level. Essencially saying, if they are all linked, you were never meant to survive, just live as long as possible at the lighthouse! Kinda a huge anticlimax to it after the hell you went through!

As far as achievements go. I am down to 3. I need: “Nothing Special”, “Untouchables”, and the new tank one for crash course.

I have L4D2 preloaded and can’t wait to play tonight!

Tank Stumble is easy, just study the paths the Tanks usually take in the finale (through the Bus Depot doors), place a propane tank nearby and fire away!

Nothing special is going to be next to impossible…

I see, it never really left the impression on me that they were immune.

It was in regard to the initial design, it really didn’t see all that OTT in terms of what was being depicted. Not when the cover of Borderlands effectively has someone shooting their brains out.

I know she has a sound effect, but it didn’t always seem to play when she appeared, and I still feel that the damage potentially caused was still a bit too high if you’re not quick in getting out of the puddle she makes.

To think about it…does it really matter? The zombies don’t even try to eat you…just punch and kick you…

Awesomely retro beyond words:

Will apparantly be released as a playable game for the PC some time in January.

YES!

I SENSE EPIC DLC!

Sense it with me, SENSE IT!

:boogieman:

I sense I am still gonna be ■■■■■■ about the glitch that reset the achievements yesterday. I had 15 done, which included going through all 5 campaigns. Sucks because a couple of them were a pain to get.

I’m having a lot of fun playing this game

Ok so… So far I got 28 out of the 50 how about u guys?
