Let's share some tips...

So I’m pretty far along on my pack, my gun is pretty much done. I just wanted to see if anyone wanted to help me out with some stuff. Does anyone have tips on making knobs for the gun? Or how about that n fliter thing. I still have a lot of work to do but I know I’ll finish it soon.

Well bigjuan, when it comes to the gun knobs, i uses wooden dowels (and some of my broken drumsticks) to make the knobs. I glue the wood to the metal washers using gorilla glue and i putty grind and shape them to the specifications or close to. then i use some really old industrial aluminum spray paint that my father “barrowed” from his job long ago and i think its one of the best metalic finishes i’ve seen out of all the spray paints i’ve used. For the little grip parts of the knob i close the end of the knob where the ridges are suppose to be in my vice which has some nice gripping teeth and i just keep taking the knob out and spinning it around and re tightening the vice untill the whole area is done and it looks nice. I would say that the knobs come out looking good, not fully accurate but they do the job for my packs that i’ve made. I really haven’t tried any other method and i would love to know how other ppl make theres.

As far as the n filter, im sorry to say i use a pringles can. I really haven’t found anything that matched the size better in the stores. I’ve probably overlooked many items that could work better but i stuck with norms plans and use pringles (a snack and a N filter… can it get any better) and i fill in the metal bottem cap with putty and sand an paint with thick primer untill the sides of the can are smooth.

Can’t wait to see you finished product Juan. I hope i can post some of my pictures soon as well.

i used a pringles can too.worked great for me

If you have the tools (and patience) to cut and shape it, a 2" PVC long collar coupling offers advantages over the pringles can…

Now the one I made for my mold, I saved a piece of the part that was cut off to glue to the opposite side as the extension for the 1/2" thick part between the “Cyclotron” and the “Synchronous Generator” (you’ll see what I mean).

One advantage is you can drill holes for the round indentations and put a piece of 2" PVC (leftover from the “Booster”) to be the inside of those indentations. Then use a piece of sign board, cut slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the coupling glued on as the top. Some bondo inside the indentions (so they’re not so deep), around the top edge (sanded to give it a rounded edge), and in any gaps once put into place on the “Cyclotron”.

Other advantages are the smooth finish of the plastic (looks great once painted) and the durability over the cardboard of the Pringles can.

sorry man, cant help ya. my pack is a vac form and i bought resin knobs from propfan

Didn’t even think about dowels. Sounds good fellas thanks for the good pointers there.

for knobs I got a few from auto parts stores… they actually have some pretty cool little knobs and things on hand. I also am using some valve caps for your tires that are chrome finish and have knurling on the tops. The last source I found was I went to the flea market and bought a couple of old stereos. Those are always good for a knob or two.
