I’ve been using a YSD-12980 x 9800mah Li-On “Blue Brick” to power my GBFans Light kit but the battery isn’t holding a charge anymore. I’m not an electrician, but unafraid to solder some stuff, and looking for an alternative.
Is it worth it to go in on a pricier battery that has the right outputs? I’m using a DC in/out system currently to connect to the board.
What about a 12v case box that can hold 8 AA batteries? Is that a good idea?

The answer everyone will give you is to buy a Talentcell.
Basically something like this:
I’m in Australia so I can’t see much on Amazon, but I assume you can find this fairly easily (or on ebay potentially). I also believe you can find one with a higher capacity, I’ve definitely seen 10,000mAh batteries available. As long as it has the 12V output you should be good.
I have a knockoff 10,000mAh Talentcell (because genuine ones aren’t available here) and I get between 16-20hrs out of it with lights and sounds at full volume. So more than enough for a multi-day event.
I have an external charge port on my pack (on the Spengler Plate) but you could potentially just mount the battery on the outside behind the Alice frame if that’s easier. It’s a black plastic case so it’s not too visible.
Personally I wouldn’t use AA batteries for this.

Hey! Super appreciate the response. I was actually going to ask about that exact battery you recommended.
I will just use Velcro like I did with the other battery to keep it in there, assuming it’s a similar size. I do need to improve my battery access/external charging access.
