Is there any way you can mount a full 37 inch lightbar to magnets to stick to the trunk of a car so I wouldnt have to drill holes into my trunk?
We mounted a 36" bar to the front of our roof. We did this by bolting four magnets to the rubber “shoes” that came with the lightbar. The magnets we got were about $6 each, and they were specially made for mounting lightbars. You can get similar magnets at hardware stores but these kinds SUCK ASS.
You will NEED to go to a police services supplier (you could probably call up our store in Denver and just have them ship the magnets to you…) to get high-quality mounting magnets. I think ours are rated for 50lbs or 65lbs each, I don’t remember.
Really, it all comes down to the weight and size of your lightbars. Our are relatively light and we angled them down for less wind resistance.
We still got the car up to 95mph with all that on, though they do whistle when you do that.
Magnets WILL scratch up your car! They will leave what look like little rusty coffee cup stains. The easiest way around this is to dip the bottom of the magnets in latex. This compromises the strength of the magnet, so be careful.
I opted to just leave the magnets on bare because my car already had enough scratches that I could repair with touch-up paint.
