Magnets........

Okay, so I’m nearly finished the first of my two (rather cheap) proton packs. The only things I’ve got left to do is wait on my mate finishing the electronics and then get the whole thing painted.

But my question is this: my gun mount on the pack is essentially a plastic lunch box (small size) and the gun itself will be made of foam - you reckon I could get away with ignoring the gun rail and just put a magnet inside the gun mount and the corresponding magnet inside the gun itself? This sound like an okay plan?

I say best stay away from magnets.

If the magnet is weak enough for the gun to be drawn then it’s weak enough to be acidently knocked/ripped off.

If its strong enough to not be knocked off then it’s too strong to be drawn.

go with a dixie cup bracket :)

Or use those flush mount picture hangers from Ace Hardware.

I like them, because you hear a kind of “click” when the gun is seated back properly in them. That reassures me that it won’t fall off.

Do you have a link for those, Gareee?

No, but they are in ace hardware store’s picture hanging section.. if you look at my wip pack pics, you can see what they look like. They are only a few dollars… maybe $3 if memory serves.

Here’s a web store link with pics of them:

They are made by Hillman, and have a green card back.

i guess that means that they are legally allowed in the states then…

LOL.. I was just at my lowe’s and hillman does restock them every 2 weeks.

Cheers for that, Gareee. They work a treat.
