MT500 reference pics (image heavy!)

I decided to photograph the MT500 and holster I just got from all angles since there weren’t a whole lot of reference pics of it available. I don’t know if the holster itself is 100% accurate, but it’s real close. I do know in the movie you can’t see the word Morotorola on the front of it, and the right side may or may not have that angled bit.

Now I just gotta find the right metal swivel clip to attach it to my belt…

Some very nice clear pictures there Ghostguy as there doesnt seem to be many clear reference photos of the radio/holster like u pointed out!

Is that the shorter antenna u have? I have the longer one & is uncomfy while wearing it as it sticks up to high & catches my elbows :sigh:

Thanks Ghostguy.

Any chance of getting you to retake those photos with a 6" steel rule against the radio for size reference?

Cheers!

Dave.

I’m pretty sure it is. I don’t know if it’s the same length as the ones in the film, but it looks that way. It’s 3 1/4" tall.

Looks to me like a VHF quarter wave antenna - is your radio tuned between 30KHz and 300KHz?

There should be an indicator behind the battery.

The gray front and rear panels are 7 9/16" tall, 2 9/16" wide (across the bottom) with a bevel approximately 1/4" in radius on the corners, 1 19/32" deep at the bottom, and 1 27/32" deep at the top.

The top of the talkie is flush with the top of the leather holster when seated in it, but the holster is 7 3/4" tall. When seated in the holster, there is a 1/4" gap between the back of the talkie and the back of the hoster, caused by the spacer in the bottom which creates a tight fit.

There is a sticker that says 230AFU inside the battery compartment. I don’t know what that means.

But here’s the ebay auction I won:

I don’t know what all those numbers mean but I think it’s saying it’s tuned around 155KHz.

You’re spot on, Ghostguy - 155KHz (VHF).

… and thanks for those dimensions.

Okay, but what’s a quarter wave VHF antenna, and is it the short one?

“Stick” antennae are usually 8/5 , 1/1, 1/2 and 1/4 the Tx frequency - yes, the 1/4 wave is the short one.

1/4 may be the short one, but the ones in the movie are shorter still!

I decided to double check, and sure enough, the ones in the movie are around 2/3rds the length of mine.

Also, strangely, the top two thirds are wider than the bottom:

(The bottom seems to be the width of the standard antenna)

It’s the same in every scene. You can see it on Egon’s here as well:

Just to make comparison easier:

The solution is to either cut your antenna down and replace the cap - it’s just a coil of wire inside - or buy a quarter wave UHF antenna tuned for about 600Mhz. Anennae are not expensive items.

Heh, I think I can live with it for now.
