I’m working on a “89” Batman costume for a birthday party later this year so i figured I’d post progress pics as I go, here’s the first prop I made …Batarangs!
Resin casted from my masters. I’m going to be doing all the costume components myself except for the latex cowl which I already have.I’ll be working in clay mostly and doing Hydrocal molds to cast the latex pieces.
Next is leg armor and forearm armor…
I made one (middle one) for a guy I worked with at EA. He’s a huge batman fan. But I made it out of steel and of course, I told him not to throw it at anyone..

how did you build your batman begins rang ive been looking at the throwing knife rangs online but if i could make it myself cheaper that would be awesome
I started trying to make my own Batman Returns suit (see attached pic) but got only as far as the mask/emblem. It’s been “shelved” since I started the GB proton pack. I just dont have enough time!
I made MDF masters ,molded in silicone and cast them in resin. I’m going to try some metallic powders from Smooth-on so they will come out looking and feeling like real metal. This one is painted with Krylon metallic paint.
Got the arm guards and knee caps done, cast in Bat black latex from monstermakers.com, no need to paint

Christian Bale’s Batman movies are the best but nothing tops that '89 costume.
No more progress pics? I’m another big fan of '89. Would love to see more. I’ve never seen someone make their own costume, everything is always bought. Impressive that you’ve taken that on.
The projects on the back burner, one thing I’ve realized is I can’t stand wearing a latex cowl or mask. It’s very restrictive and at times you get that feeling of claustrophobia. I may pick it back up later but we have a TMNT project coming up.
Send it here…I’ll wear it. 
That’s funny, I almost mentioned in my previous post something like “good luck wearing that thing, I hear it’s a very claustrophobic costume…etc…” (but not in a mean way of course. It’s one of the most badass costumes ever)
I’m sure you know already being a fan and all, but I remember hearing stories of Michael Keaton having panic attacks during filming from being claustrophobic in his suit. Very interesting finding out later as we grow up about the realities of the things we see in movies. We always think it’s perfect and so much fun to be our favorite movie characters. Same concept with wearing proton packs. They’re very heavy, and I’m extremely nervous in a crowd that idiots will run into me and damage something.
At Dragoncon 2005, there was a guy dressed as 89 Batman… best 89 Batman costume I’ve ever seen in person. It was amazing - he really looked like Michael Keaton. I asked him how long he can wear it at one time (it’s usually around 85 degrees here that time of year) and he said IIRC, 1 to 1 1/2 hours max.
I wore my cowl on Halloween night for about 2 hours and I was done, the panic attack came when I tried to get it back off my head afterwards :lol:

Seems like I remember reading that the bat emblem was ceramic on the real costume and that the cowl and chest piece weighed about 40 lbs alone. It’s no wonder he had panic attacks. He probably felt like he was encased in concrete.
