My Belt Gizmo Build Pic Heavy 7/18/2011

So I finally attempted my belt gizmo. I recieved a kit from nic-a-tron which is absolutely a dream to work with. I 100% recommend him to you as his shipping is fast and quality of parts is outstanding.

I started by giving them a good scrub down with soapy water and wet sanded them.

Then painted them with satin espresso brown

I bought a amp cord from radio shack and bought a plastic electrical plug which i converted into a “plug in” for the gizmo. Used heat shrink to pull it all together!

As that was drying I started to heat shrink my nixie tubes…

As I was doing this my lovely wife started painting the board using reference photos from Gbfan builds. We used acrylic sharpie paint markers.

Then I bought a ton of random capacitors, chips, resistors etc. at radio shack and started making a diagram of where i was going to put everything.

Then drilled out all the holes and began placing them on the board. Most of the parts were secured using hot glue which worked like a charm.

Then tackled the nixies which were a pain in the butt. Some of the heatshrink ended up getting damaged, o well. Guess ill have to redo it on another gizmo build. Luckily I was able to save it and make it somewhat decent.

Here it is on my belt!

Please let me know what you think! I know it isnt the best but im happy for my first try!

Looks really good. Nicks kits are excellent. I used his kit for my belt gizmo

looks good.

Thanks for the kind words!

Not bad at all.

Good work? Where did you get your nixie tubes?

Thx guys! The nixie tubes were bought off eBay. Do a search there you’ll find a good amount of sellers. mainly from Russia and Romania so order fast cause they take a bit of time shipping

Dude you built that your self, That is awesome!!

Your belt gizmo looks good. Similar to the one I built using nicks kit. The real components set it off loads.

Thanks for the great comments! Im gonna be building another one soon for my wifes costume

That looks really good, man. I have some nixie tubes coming in from ebay. I was wondering what size heat shrink tubing you used for the leads coming off of them? I was thinking about getting some 1/8" OD before shrinking, but I wasn’t sure.

The smallest available. I’d have to double check the size

Very very nice!!

I’m going to be building my own pretty soon, so I was wondering how you secured the back of it? Like all the wires that are pushed through, how did you cover them all?

Just used hot glue over the exposed wires. Bent them over after I pushed them through the holes, put a small bit of hot glue and now they won’t budge. I removed a clip off of a tape measure and epoxied it to the daughter board
