my first pack
Although i have to say the wood work on makeing the mold was not that bad. But it is very time consuming. Finding parts to do the gear box and for the gun body was a little pain in the butt but i got it eventually. I have not yet molded the mold yet but I will. I have pictures of my work. tell me what u think.
I would also like to thank the owner of this site without him i would have never know how to build the pack.

Yeah my back can feel the weight of it just from looking at the pictures! But great job, can’t wait see what she looks like all finished. What did you use for the cyclotron? it kinda looks like a small oil pan. That or a reall deep and sharp cornered cake pan. Keep up the excellent work!
All the corners and edges look very clean, it’s gonna look very good once it’s painted.
Looks pretty good, is the gunbox a solid piece? Hard to tell from the pic, the pack should look pretty good after you paint. Can I make a suggestion? Seeing as your pack is all wood mostly you may want to seal it before painting. You can get a 1 liter can of polyester fiberglassing resin with MEKP hardener for about $13. If you coat the whole pack with a layer or two before priming not only will it fill in small cracks but it will help cover the woodgrain look. Then prime and paint as usual. You may want to give the hardened resin a rub with steel wool first thou.

You know, everybody keeps talking about how “heavy” someones pack looks… and I understand that heavy means getting tired… but I actually think it adds some realism. Bill Murray did say he “always hated this part of the business”! Plus if you ever have a friend try it on, they’ll be VERY suprised!

One tiny, TINY adjustment, however…the washers on the cyclotron are evenly spaced. Believe it or not, that’s incorrect if you’re going for accuracy. The bottom two are supposed to be slightly closer together than the top two. It’s a microscopic detail to be sure but it looks kinda cool.

Sorry all i know the weight gives it realizm and adds to the fun of handing the packs off to ppl who think there probably light weight. I was just commending that, by the looks of it, it seems REALLY heavy. where my packs are under 20 lbs and are made of light weight material and 1/8 inch luewan (spelling) and not solid wood.
thanks to all those for you information but i a am actually going to vaccum form it for the shell, I am going to use Polystrene. same for the gun. Im not to familary with doing the fiberglass but pretty soon i will do a fiberglass one. I just want to see how the vaccum form one is going to come out. I will keep up witht he pictures thanks again.
the gun box i made from 1x4 i screwd the piecies together and filled the holse with woodfill and sanded it down
If you’re going to be using that as your buck for vac forming you may find that you cant do the details like the ion arm, booster frame,hga etc. Your Polystyrene will not release from the mold. Vac form shapes need to be very smooth with no undercuts or recesses. Just FYI 
yeah I kinda relized that after thinking about it I am going to cut the pipe close it off and then reattach it after. This is my first time doing it so i hope it comes out ok. thanks for the info
yeah i used a 9" bakeing pan it worked out great.
