My First Trip to New York! Pics Added!!!

Hey there, guys!

I am going on my first trip to New York City in a few weeks and of course I want to get out and see as many Ghostbusters sights as I can! I have a few obvious choices in mind, and will do some research on others.

  1. Hook & Ladder #8

  2. Public Library

  3. History Museum (VG)

Where did they film the Art Museum in Pt 2?

Basically if anyone has any other locations, or any protocols for any of the locations I would REALLY like to hear them. I understand that H&L 8 is a functioning fire house and that I can’t just walk in and start snapping pictures, etc. I am very excited about this trip and look forward to New York during the Holiday season! I look forward to hearing from you guys about your experiences and any advice you have on visiting the filming locations.

You definitely should go to the university - and Lincoln Center is only a few blocks behind it.

Peruse Spook Central’s listings - they’ve been cataloging all the sites as people have identified them.

The Manhattan Museum of Art is on the Bowling Green in Lower Manhattan, if you end up catching the ferry to Staten Island, Liberty Island or one of the tours around the bay, it isn’t to far if you walk.

The museum in the videogame doesn’t exist, the exterior is a modified 3D model of the New York Public Library.

Whilst in lower Manhattan, why not visit City Hall Park, you won’t be able to get too close to it, but you can view City Hall from there. Additionally if you ride the 6 Train downtown and stay on after it leaves Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall Station, you’ll see the disused City Hall station, which inspired the design of Van Horne station in Ghostbusters II.

As for the Firehouse, whether the shutter’s down or not will make a lot of difference. If there are some firefighters present they’ve been pretty good with Ghostbusters fans visiting and taking photos. You can even buy a T-shirt featuring their own varient of the Ghostbusters logo.

In addition to the locations already mentioned, there’s obviously the Statue of Liberty itself, as well as Times Square and 55 Central Park West, which served as Dana’s apartment building.

I recently went to New York for the first time. I found the number 1 train (red), will take you to a lot of shooting locations.

Starting from the north…

‘Columbia university’

‘Lincoln centre’

‘Columbus circle’ & a small walk to Dana’ apartment

‘Franklin st.’ for ghostbusters HQ

And the last stop ‘south ferry’ will drop you near the museum from GB2.

From there you can easily get the green 4/5/6 line up to grand central station & just walk to 5th ave. the public library is right there.

The GB2 “museum” is actually the customs house, and the electronics store they run out of in the montage is now a Chipotle, on the road to the left.

Other than going to all of the GB movie spots, there are tons of other places you can go to! Check out Central Park, FAO Schwartz and Time Square too! NYC is a beautiful place to visit with tons too see!

55 Central Park West isn’t on your list?

It sure was! :stuck_out_tongue: I managed to make it to 4 locations. Of course my Mom wasn’t too keen on making this a Ghostbusters only trip, so I am happy to have gotten my 4 locations in.

  1. 55 Central Park West:

  1. Columbia University:

  1. Hook & Ladder 8:

Congrats, great pics and great memories. I hope to make a pilgrimage like this someday.

I am wandering the web looking up details on the various NYC architecture seen in GB and I discovered something about this statue of ‘Alma Mater’, or Minerva… she has a hidden owl in the folds of her robe.

It’s supposed to be good luck if you find it. Legends surround it on campus, like the first freshman to find it each year will be that class’ valedictorian, etc.

The websites where I found pics of it won’t give out details to help find it, they want you to enjoy searching on your own, but I think that’s more fun.

Hope to make a GB-filming pilgrimage like yours someday and search for it myself.

I’m blown away that the ugly scaffold tunnel is still outside 55 CPW two years after we visited. What are they possibly doing?

It was way worse when Jack, Matt, and I were there back in the Spring.

It concerns me as I think there was scaffolding on 55CPW back when I visited it in 2006.

Ah, very nice. I visited for the first time back in November last year. Your pics have brought back the memories even if it was only a short time since.

I hope to do the same someday, glad you got the chance to visit.
