I was looking for a way to build a nice sturdy pack, but keep the costs at a reasonable budget. I spent some time rifling through these forums and finally broke down and bought a D42 vac shell. This is the shell I plan on using for this year’s Halloween festivities, but its still missing the thrower/wand.
I was very pleased at how nicely things went with the gun box I decided to give to rest of the pack the ol’ college try. Besides, you can never have to many unlicensed nuclear accelerators around the house. I started with the ion arm and the PPD Box. I figured, simple enough, right??
I had a little trouble keeping the grooves in the crank gen when I was gluing it together, so I had to cut a hole in the back to straighten things out.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I like my vac shell, but I always wished the edges were a bit more crisp. those edges are really coming out in this build.
Bottom. Resin the outside a few times. Cut a hole about the size of a half dollar and pour in there. If you get your Rondo right it should be about the consistency of warm pudding. Slush that around making sure you have enough material on the top and bottom. Then cut out the bottom.

OK. It’s been a couple of days and I’ve been able to make a bit of progress on this build. I’ll let the photos do all the talking.
As you can see I’ve in the past couple of days I’ve been able to build up the majority of the main shell, attach everything and get the first 2 coats of resin on it.
Next I need to finish cutting out the inner walls of the shell and then comes the fiberglass. As of right now I’m low on supplies so I won’t be able to get to this step until next week. I will, however, be able to take some pics of my adventures in Rondo. More to follow.
It’s been going… After Halloween I took a bit of break. but I plan on getting back to it next week. I have run into some problems, like having parts of the shell concave , so i’ve been spending a lot of time sanding and filling. I hope to pick up some styrene in the next couple of weeks to start on the ribs. And then once the shell is finished with I’ll start ordering more of the hardware for the pack.
