My "I have questions about stuff" thread

Chuck Norris likes his ice like he likes his skulls. Crushed.

Ok guys…big moment. My GBfans shell will be here tomorrow. So question time.

I know I’m supposed to wash the shell to get the release agent off. What do you guys use to wash your shells with? Dish detergent? Mild cloth?

Also…what size bolts are used to mount the mobo to the Alice frame? I’ve read on here 1/4-20 3/4". I know the holes on the GBfans mobo are predrilled, but are they supposed to be tapped too?

Very excited about this. Thinking about taking a half personal day tomorrow from work. Also have the next three days off. Which means I’ll be having all kinds of fun. Weather and 7 month old daughter permitting.

I just used some handsoap and a sponge that happened to be next to me… LOL

As for the mounting bolts, I used 2-1/2" 1/4-20 slotted round head bolts… 3/4" is too short… You are using spacers, correct? No, there will be no tapping involved to mount the frame to the mobo…

It is exciting, isn’t it? I took 2 days off last week as well to finish my pack… Continue with the questions, we’re here to help! And heck, I learn from others’ advice as well!

Thanks Phil! You’ve been a huge help along with everyone else on here.

Yes, I’m going the whole hockey puck spacer (I know Julz would me but I like the look and feel of them). Had them cut and waiting for 2 weeks now. Lol Cant wait for the first time I strap that Alice frame on my back with the shell mounted to it. My wife is going to know what it is to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

I’d also recommend lightly wet sanding the outside of the shell with fine sandpaper.

Oh, yes, definitely!

Searched the engine of searching and couldn’t find an answer.

Is the r-701 and r-331 clippards the same size? I have a 701 on my gun and need to order the 331 for the pack. Can I use the 701 as a template to drill for the other in the meantime?

Yup, the bases are exactly the same. The differences are internal other than the ■■■■ and the label.

It’s even movie accurate to have two 701s installed (one on the thrower and one on the pack) if you wanted to go that route. Spengler hero, baby!

Jack -Thanks! I thought I’d read that somewhere but wasn’t sure.

Grimmy -that’s quite interesting! Now I’m not sure which route to go. Thanks a lot…■■■■! :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Does anyone know the measurements of the Spengler charge plate? Search function lands me nothing but for sale threads. Which I may use if I can’t get the right measurements. Lol

I would contact Noslitt - he sells spengler plates which I used on my GB1 hero and they are fantastic. He might be willing to give you the measurements.

Awesome! Yea, Chris is a good guy. I’ve placed quite a few orders with him. Come to think of it…my pack is mostly made from people named Chris or Eric…which is a fun coincidence because my fiancès name is Chris (Christina) and my best friend/brothers name is Eric. :stuck_out_tongue: thanks again!

haha something about guys named Eric… they usually are pretty cool :stuck_out_tongue:
