Okay, I honestly don’t recall too much about the origins of this kit. The main body is resin and the wings look to be layered styrene. So, why the mystery? This thing has been sitting “dead” in a box for close to a decade. This took a fall off my belt at a convention (NYCC or possibly a smaller local con), hit the floor, and never turned back on again. I always intended to figure out what happened… and just never got around to it. After the Mattel PKE came out, I had NO reason to.
Tonight I was bored, dug this out of the box it had been resting in, and took a stab at it. Got it to fire up and, full disclosure, it works… with a couple quirks. First off, the power switch is a hair trigger and will power on/off at the slightest touch and the servos have problems with their range. Not sure if they’re dying or the wings are just getting hung up on something. Aside from that, this has lights AND sounds (not accurate, but less annoying than the Mattel SFX). The lights speed up as your raise the wings which are controlled by two face buttons at the top of the handle. Powering on the meter, the wings will auto-home to a closed position. I believe they’re an old Jupiter Electronics kit, but I honestly have NO idea anymore.
