need help with molding.

Looking for suggestions on which type of resins and silicones are safe to use on foam. I’m currently working on a foam pack to use as my buck. I intend to coat it with epoxy resin to give it a smooth and durable finish before making a mold of it with silicone. I’ll probably then coat the silicone with fiberglass to keep its shape when casting shells. I appreciate any advice on the process. I believe I’ll be using blue insulation foam for the most part. Thanks.

Hey everyone. I am currently making a buck out of blue insulation foam. I was wondering what would be the best way to give it a perfect finish before casting. I was going to use apoxy resin. Please let me know if there is a better way of doing this. Thanks.

As you already had one topic asking for assistance/info with resin casting, there was no need to create a second. Both topics have now been merged.

I would recommend a low viscosity epoxy resin like Bob Smith Industries 20 min 2 part epoxy resin. I have built two brand new pack shells made with foam core and I coated each shell with about 2-3 thin coats of BSI epoxy resin and sanded it all smooth. The results are quite amazing. Its easy to sand when it is completely cured, can be applied with a paint brush, has very low odor, and is easy to mix. I would recommend purchasing a small digital household food scale to make measuring out the resin and hardener much easier though. The BSI epoxy resin is usually available at most hobby stores or on amazon.com.

Thanks for the advice and sorry about double posting. I thought the first post didn’t go through. I’m going to try the recommended resin and get a super clean buck before figuring out casting. My days of MDF packs is finally over lol. Thanks again.
