Hi all, Fled checking in from Melbourne, Australia.
My love affair with the boys in jumpsuits (and the redheaded lady fair) began in 1986. I was 11 or 12, and had just watched the first GB movie on Betamax and the RGB cartoon was just starting. I was hooked.
I was a big fan of the whole Egon/Janine dynamic, and not just because my high school nickname was “Egon” (I kid you not).
I did a lot of fan art, but over the years they were all lost. This was before the days of cheap scanners and PCs. My enthusiasm waned over the decades, but never disappeared.
My love was reignited a couple of months ago when I randomly found some RGB Minimates on eBay. I snapped them up, along with a couple of the RGB Retro-Action figures, and my inner fanboy was let loose. I started drawing again, and I’m currently building the AMT Ecto-1A model.
The icing on the cake was the RGB Complete Collection DVD box set that my wife got me for our 10-year anniversary last week.
Sounds like you’re only a few years younger than I am–I was fifteen when the cartoon started, and it really gets most of the credit (or blame) for making me a lifelong fan.
I’ve discovered that Minimates work pretty well as display pieces with the ECTO-1 models. Kind of like chocolate and peanut butter.
Well, that clinches it. I better pimp my web site, full of my fan art, fan fics, and much (sometimes I worry too much) Egon/Janine love
