Alright, so I’ve annoyed more than enough of you in pursuit of creating this monster. It’s been two weeks of sawing with a handsaw, hacking away with a hammer and screwdriver, (doubling as a warped chisel). I sanded, filed and bled, all to get this bitch done before Halloween.
This sucker is MDF, PVC, styrene, a few resin replica pieces, and a handful of original parts. It aint perfect, but it’s one rugged mother.
Amidst some hard times I may have to let her go. In addition to showing her off, I’m asking what you cats think a replica of this caliber might be worth.
It’s of course mounted to an Alice pack and has static LED lights.
This is how it looked towards the week and a half mark:
“worth” is such a relative term. If you toss it on ebay at the right time you could proabably get between $500-$900 for it. It really depends on who sees it, how much they want it and if there’s someone else that wants it just as much though.
i think you should keep it atleast until your next one, knowing you did it with hardly any tools makes it more valuable on a sentimental level to me. a well made proton pack (not a gareee build, any 7th grader can hot glue electrical boxes) is an investment.
if you ABSOLUTELY MUST sell it, shortly before halloween is when you’ll get your highest sell amount.
I’ll have to agree with this (Well, mostly. Garee’s packs show ingenuity that most 7.th graders do not have, and that is an asset for this community).
Do not sell it before you Really, really need the cash. While not perfectly 100% accurate (No pack is..), It looks great, and the best part, you did it yourself. If you wore it on halloween, you most likely had a blast, and while memories last a long time, so do regrets…
I completed my pack along my friends last summer, and come hell or high water, it will stay with me.. For what it is worth, what it cost me ( In money, time, and other things I will not divulge here), and for the memories.. We’ve had few fieldings in our gear, and THAT is something I cannot even begin to describe… For a movie that is a quarter-century old, before digital revolutions, EVERYONE knows what it is.. That is hard to beat.
But, If you really need to sell it, wait. The season is not ripe for proton packs at the moment. A month or two ago, THEN you would have made a fortune on that. But, If you wore that a month ago, you know why…
Great pack man, REALLY great for a first time.. I know how much you have bled on that, and it really was worth the effort!
