Hello! Well for a while now ive been wanting to build a pack based on a vac formed shell, just to see really how they are to work with and what kind of results I could achieve with one. Really I wanted a quick, easy, somewhat budget pack build that would be lightweight and not matter too much if got a little damaged at a party etc…well that idea went out the window as soon as I saw how nice the shell I purchased was when it arrived. Its made by gbfans member King_leezard.
The only part I really changed was the N-filter. I cut the top off the old one and made a new one out of a pringles can skinned in resin
I cant tell you how much fun this has been to put together, its been a breeze, almost too easy, im always expecting some major problem to halt my progress.
Well anyway, heres the finished (apart from shell to mobo mounting) pack section. Its mounted onto one of AJ’s VERY nice alice frames.
Nice job, Nick. Welcome to the vacuum formed pack builders club. They can be a nice alternative when you are on a budget and have the time and patience to get what you can out of them.
Thanks Matt! Yeah im really surprised at the results.
This is a vac formed pack?!? Holy ■■■■, great job, man. Absolutely incredible.
This looks great Nick! I had debated picking up a vac form shell. I was concerned that the shell wouldn’t be strong enough to support everything being mounted to it. Did you have to reinforce the shell with wood or anything underneath?
Fantastic job!
Thanks! the only reinforcement I had to make was inside the shell on the plating/chanel/trench that contects the top section with the bottom. I just fiberglassed it with about 6 layers, now its very strong. There no sag or droop anywhere. I will be reinforing the gun mount box though.
You did a great job!
I think vac-form would be an even more desirable alternative for folks if the small detail bits like the ribs, cyclotron rings, and eda discs were left off. If those parts were added separately, there would be very little giveaway that it was a vac-form piece. I’ve seen that brought up before, but haven’t seen any vac-form producers take heed of the advice.
Ok got her all finished (minus lights). Pretty standard build really, nothing too fancy too report so enjoy the photos
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: absolutely incredible.
Jeez this is phenomenal. You guys have this pack making thing down to a science. Hell, it takes me months just to collect the parts!
Nice pack. After I finish with my current build, I may try a vac shell. But you know, Nick makes it looks so easy.
Very nice! Looks like a very good pull on the vacuum form. I don’t see any webbing and the details are not too soft at all! Looks great to me!
