Have any of you guys ever wandered why there was never any 2 part episodes in RGB? I mean some of those story lines thru out the first 2 Seasons were already great as it was but think about how much more in depth some of those stories could of been if they were split into 2 episodes instead of one and had 40 minutes to work with instead of 20. What episodes do you guys think could have been better if given 2 parts?
There was technically one one-hour episode: “Deja Boo” aired in a one-hour block. But it was a stupid clip show, so I can see why nobody would want to count it.
I can only imagine if JMS and the rest had been allowed to do cliffhangers and multi-part stories. I need to go back through the episode list, but I’ve found more than one episode as I’ve watched the DVDs where I went “Now, if they’d had a second episode, they could have made this story work better than the super-quick, all-too-convenient plot twist they had to restort to.”
Hm…off the top of my head? “Venkman’s Ghost Repellers.” Maybe “Hanging by a Thread” (such potential in that story, but several problems). Certainly a longer, more intense “Collect Call of Cthulhu” (though that episode was damn awesome as is).
I guess we’ll never know for sure, though the longer stories from 88MPH and IDW could give us an idea what they might have been capable of.
I agree with “Collect Call of Cthulhu” as a two parter would be have been interesting. Another one I would suggest was “Ragnarok and Roll.” Although we got see a New York over run with supernatural forces in the Halloween special and later on in Tempus’ alternative future in EGB, I would have liked to have seen “Ragnarok and Roll” continue with a Part 2, maybe picking up 6 months later with the RGB leading an underground resistance and eventually going after Jeremy and his benefactor in a last ditch effort.
I agree Ranarok N Roll would have been even better as a two part show. Also Flip Side would be even more fun to watch if the writers made it a two parter, with Ray and Egon held captive by the People Busters and only Peter left to rescue them and the other humans that were sucked into Boo York. Looking back at it now it is kind of funny how many other cartoons aimed at boys in the 1980’s like G.I. Joe and The Transformers made two or even three to five part stories when the Real Ghostbusters was mainly self contained stories save the occasional reference to earlier episodes.
I thought it was too bad they didn’t make an animated movie. But yeah a couple of two parters would have been cool.
Definetly collect call of cathulu, boogie man cometh, big ones like that which ended suddenly… BUT an add on to your though.. wouldn’t it be kinda great to have a episode with some musical numbers in it… but only with the old voice actors…
I would love to have seen a two part episode based on a Christmas story, yeah I know we had Xmas marks the spot but shame there wasn’t more to that, also I would to have loved to see Knock Knock in two parts… & as somebody just mentioned seeing the RGBs in a animated movie would’ve been cool
