I just don’t understand why you would simplify your pack for a cosplay when so much of the appreciation wearers get is for the complexity of the pack. If I wanted simplicity I’d put a box over it, but that’s not fun for people to look at. Simplified realistic made props don’t get recognition. Big piles of complicated looking stuff gets recognition. If you wear that at a convention with other GBs around people are going to skim over yours. That’s just how it is.
Maybe think less “How simple and realistic can I make this” and more “how can I make this my own while still impressing the viewer?”
Wallabe: It’s not technically “simplified” as I said, its mostly reflecting a protective case around the sensitive equipment. It just doesn’t make logical sense to me that all that hanging out would be conducive to the knock around nature of being a ghostbuster. The equipment is still there, its just inside the protective case, and in some cases streamlined (Though some of it is because I can’t get certain things I wanted, like the aforementioned plasma tube…stupid plasma tube people..Make a small one! ) External greebles are the lights, sounds, and meters, along with the Slime, however I will be able to take it off and still have something nifty to show by opening the panels, and showing things off when I don’t feel like lugging it around.
Vee: I’m trying to be different so I can stand out. We have thousands of ghostbusters, and while I could go and make a Ghost smasher pack, and that’d be cool, then it’s only a thing a ghosthead would get. Anybody can make a prop replica with enough time and money, but to come up with something original, that still is recognizable as the prop, and still has enough interesting things about it, that is the key to standing out
Also I should note, I wasn’t trying to jump down anyone’s throat, I apologize if it sounded that way, but the only negative comments I got prior to Wallabe all came off “This isn’t an exact replica so it sucks” which it was never intended to be, so it bugged me that people would come into the thread and condemn it as such.
Oh, and the reason I’m using Blender to make a 3d model, is because I have basic sketches, but my art skills on paper are crud and hard to reference, this is much easier to reference.
Hmmm…You have a point there about that GB logo, I think it would look better between the blocks if it was on there. Maybe I can put some of the other, smaller labels on that post…let me toy with that in blender, see how it looks.
Ok, added some labels, removed the logo (well, more reskinned it, but I digress) and shrank the big label a bit. Also went and adjusted the panel itself so it didn’t look as weird. I think this will be the “go to” for the main pack
uh wow, that’s kind of overkill on the labels, right there. Maybe consider something else to fill up space? Examine the proton pack and see what elements of it would fit without infringing on your whole “stream-lined” thing. Like the ribbing on the crank and gun boxes? Maybe a booster tube?
Hmm… I could move the yellow tag to where the danger tag is, then put a trap mount there, though then I need to go back to modding the trap… Ill toy with it when I’m home and off work
Tbh I don’t mind the design and I can see where you’re coming from with it.
Not so keen on the over use of labels that big.
If you’re using the fact a computer is all covered up as a base for your idea why not take a few more ideas from the computer towers?
I see you gave a vent on the side why not add a honeycomb vent with a fan behind it or USB ports or something to break up the smooth surface rather than just big labels?
Could be an idea, I’m also thinking of putting the crank on the top. The fan could be on there if I do it right, but it’ll be touchy to get juuuuuuuuuust right so it doesn’t look cheesy. Thinking of using the vents for sound output, as the cyclotron will house a second, functional laptop, to handle sound. If I understood more about Electrical engineering I’d make it handle the lights too, but I think I’ll have to go with the Arduino for that.
Ooooh, now THAT could be interesting, I could do that fairly easy if I can find a small enough screen, and figure out a way to hook it up. As for the thrower, that’s coming as soon as I get a working sketch to work from. The slime blower is bugging me, but I think I figured out a way here at work, just need to check it when I get home, and do some analysis of the ergonomic handle style, weather it causes issues with holstering or drawing the wand to have it bent
Ok, here is the latest iteration, I’ve cleared up almost all of the dead space, there is a vent (there is another one unseen because of the angle but its there) The graph will be a functioning screen, since I’ll be running most of this with an old laptop I have, Light bars and Slime are same as before.
And here is its associated proton gun, this is the first incarnation of this, but i think it looks decent so far.The Slime Blower is designed similar to a Grenade Launcher, the 2 knobs are Fire control (aka power regulation) and Fire select (slime, protons, dark matter and meson) The blue light and big silver button are trap trigger and trap sync light, there will be similar on the trap. Trap will wind up with minor adjustments when I finish it but nothing too major. As stated, it’s a fairly good design, just eliminating the pedal and have to apply the lights associated with the wireless sync. The red circle on the left of the gun is power, similar to the bar on the normal proton guns. I used this gauge because I just thought it had more flare. The Clippard here is left exposed because I believe they may need to actually adjust it. There currently is no “Make it hard” lever, though that is mostly because I’m unsure why it was there, and I don’t want to just put it on there for no reason. There are going to be vents, but I’m approaching work time, and I don’t have time to add them right now. Just wanted to get this inital concept out for opinons
So, last night blender crashed apparently and apparently I broke the cardinal rule in working with computers, and forgot to save. As such, here is the updated one that looks slightly different.
Do you print it with a 3d printer? Otherwise you will have a hard time finding a projekt box for the main body of the gun. Stapubox 1023 h 60 could work
And just another logic note: Why would you put a screen on the back if the wearer has to take it off to look at it since they’ll be busting solo? I mean, I guess it looks interesting to other people if you’re wearing it out at events, but it doesn’t fit in with your “more functional/ stream-lined” idea.
