Non-Prototype Pack Design

Mostly relating information as to pack status, which can be forwarded to the updated PKE, and modified through the PKE. I also thought maybe it could keep track of captured spirits and put a running tab on there, with itemized listing of captured spirits and fees like proton charging and such, though that wasn’t its intention, more of a side feature I thought about adding. Wasn’t sure on that one.

Just realized those vents won’t work on that thrower, as the ones visible would be where the V hook would be, have to adjust that when I get home. I also need to put a slide trimmer on there for the power rating.

For those curious, heres a “greeble map” for this pack so far, trying to get everything planned, the monitor back will actually be a casing housing my android tablet.

dude, if you’re going to “have all the info on the pack screen feed into the PKE” then why bother with the screen at all? its just a waste of space.

It’s either a waste of space, or empty space, because nothing else makes sense in that space besides a screen, unless you have a suggestion?

I don’t know, how about a stylized version of an ion arm booster tube/eda box? and how about you put an actual bumper on that thing?

Dude, i’ll be honest with you, as your idea stands now, it looks like a trashed idea for the kenner toy pack. In the sense of what we usually wear, this visually has no relation to the pack you’re trying to “modernize”.

See, the thing about dressing up as a ghostbuster is that unless people see the iconic hardware and patch, no one knows who we are; we aren’t exactly up there with storm troopers on the noticeability scale. I can respect your initiative to try to come up with something you think is sleeker and more modernized, but i honestly think you need to actually see a proton pack in person, and get a much better idea of what you’re getting into before you continue this project. start doing a lot of reading. don’t search, just read; the proton pack section is a treasure trove of information, experience, and overcome obstacles. everyone, not just people on this forum, get annoyed when you ask for information that’s readily available to you if you take the time and read for it. pour over the build threads, read all the old dusty builds and see what’s been done. you aren’t the first person to do this, but if you do it right the first time, you wont be the last.

I know you’re excited, and believe me i implore you not to lose that fervor. but for the sake of all that’s holy, backtrack and do your homework before you touch the stylus again.

So basically my choices at the moment are delay, wind up doing absolutely nothing because I’ll run out of money because I’m on a temp job and have student loans and cannot afford to do a decent basic pack that I’d be willing to wear in public, or run this modern pack that you’re saying no one will wind up being the equivalent of wearing the inflatable. So, I’m in a damned if I do, damned if I don’t situation, with these packs costing so much to make even remotely look good, and my “updated” equipment looking more like toys. So far the only one I haven’t had any complaints about is the PKE, but if that’s all I’m making I might as well not make it either.

stop, just stop. here are you choices, sport:

(only option) 1: Delay. you have no idea what you’re doing; seriously bro. Xavior, I want you to look in a mirror and tell yourself you’re a god damned ghostbuster. go do it now, i’ll wait.

Nothing in this community is easy to build. I may have had the funds, but it took me eleven months to build my pack. I **researched **it for four months non-stop. breaks at work, late at night, on the pooper… dude you need to read, I cannot stress this enough. AWESOME packs have been built on scrap parts and bubble gum and still to this day look great.

build a foam pack. there are builds archived in the proton pack section that WILL HELP YOU. there are users on this forum who are gods of pink insulation foam and they WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ASK. all you have to do is first help yourself to the info already available.

Oh so you’re a broke nerd like the rest of us? make a kickass uniform first. a pack wont mean jack shit if you don’t actually have a uniform to wear with it. know what a ghostbuster looks like without a pack? A really bad stuntman from zombieland, that’s right I went there!

As for your pke, dude, build a videogame version! you’re already on a great start with it, and if you just keep at it, it will be awesome!

Stop being so whiney and grow a pair, you’re a ghostbuster! we face down the worst the netherworld can throw at us during an 12 hour non-union shift with horrible benefits. Don’t get all depressed because things aren’t going as you thought they would. I will tell you this right now dude, you will never get far in anything if you just throw up your hands and give up at the first sign of a problem. bust through the wall and make the best out of your situation and you’ll find everything eventually clicks into place.

While I agree that nothing is easy to build, nothing is cheap either. And a ghostbuster with a uniform and no gear might as well paint “slime me” all over his face. The only thing I could think of to do alternatively would be build Winston’s Proton Gun, but for the life of me I cannot find a single danged image of it and its assigned pack. The only image I see of it is on the wiki and it doesn’t show the pack part, or if it maybe uses a belt pack or a variation of the arm pack. When you start out and have no gear, and the cheapest pack you can make is 250+ even with foam, it gets very disheartening.

EDIT: Found it not 10 minutes afterward, uses standard pack so THATS out.

Dude I know quite a few busters who started out with less. You don’t need oodles of money to make a really good looking kit. In the end, it’s only going to look as good as you want it to. There’s also no shame at all in walking without a pack with a uniform on, everyone does it, literally. You can get by with a uniform and a pke, you can even build cheap goggles that look good. No one star tty a out looking like they walked off the movie set, and to expect to is ridiculous.

Make a kud meter, a sniffer, go for the elusive slime scoop. It’s not like you don’t have options.

ok 2 things

1: How do I get the wings working on the PKE without a wing kit since it won’t fit , for the life of me I can’t figure that out, that’s part of why I eliminated them in the “modern pke” design

2: wtf is a KUD meter?

  1. Figure it out designer boy.

  2. Look it up.

Oh, that thing is a KUD Meter, Never knew its name. I wonder what it measures.

The KUD doesn’t look hard if I can find a way around the metal detector.

And I suppose I could build the Arm Mounted pack with Winston’s proton pistol (provided I can find the parts for it all) but its a lot easier to find that small amount of parts, then the amount for the large pack.

Still have no clue about the wings though. Moving them and lighting isn’t exactly easy

Dude, I built a kud meter for 40 bucks, with the accurate parts.

Seriously man, if you want to build a cheap pack, go egb. Hell you even do lights and sound and still come under 200 bucks if you’re thrifty.

Yeah but the EGB pack just never looked good to me. The arm pack from the comics at least LOOKS like a proton pack.

to illustrate my point, this is the pack, minus its thrower

And here it is with its thrower in the comics

A proper selfdesigned pack will cost you about 700 dollar. It adds up over time. even with " cheap " electronics like in mine.

The electronics were the cheapest part of my deisgn, I had most of them and I was going to Arduino the others. Though I think looking at what Wharin was saying, pack wise I’ll probably go with that arm pack (its small so I can make it easier) and focus more on scanning equipment like the PKE, KUD and Gigameter

I walked around this Halloween in MY kick ass uniform with no proton pack. Know what I did? I Zip tied one of those $30 proton pack back packs to my Alice frame. No one knew any different. Plus, I had somewhere to put my stuff inside the back pack.
