Sorry it took so long to get around to an introduction but…HI.
I was introduced to this site at DragonCon this year which brings up my first question. After showing one of my earlier toon profile pics (the one I’m using now) to the guys at the GB table, I thought it would be funny to recreate the scene…ish. If you’ve been to DragonCon, you know what a blur it is after so I hope you can forgive the following. I forgot which group it was that I met and who took this picture.
I’m a professional artist/illustrator having started in the early days of digital art. I’m currently trying to feed the urge to actually build some things non-virtual for once as well as learning electronics, etc. I’ve never actually done cosplay either so it occurred to me the other day to roll it all up into one big project. Finally found a khaki flight suit in my size so that’s covered. Now I’m entering the maker realm. I want to try to do as much myself as possible and yes I realize that brings up a whole host of difficulties but I like workarounds. It’s what I’ve always been good at. I’ve got some vague plans of attack in mind for building but I’m still very early in learning any of it.
For this project, I began thinking of replicating the movie props but then it occurred to me that as you can see in the image, the gun is HUGE for me so it would be better to design things that looked appropriate and practical rather than accurate. Therefore, I’m designing all new equipment (in the spirit of the originals), essentially turning my chair into something like a ‘mini-ectomobile’.
I’ll post designs and build progress as I get to it. Also I’d appreciate any help on materials/methods etc and would be more than happy to help with any design related things in return.
And now back to try to get something done today.
