Ok here’s the story, once upon a time I had a almost completed Ploar Lights Ecto-1. I decided to give it a clear coat after I applied the decals but it turned out matte & hazy. I tried to strip the paint off but screwed it up even more, so I decided to make it a pre-ecto. That’s when I found this:
and the little lightbulb over my head turned on. I thought it would be cool if I combined this Caddy with the Ecto & made this as a diorama:
but that would consist of cutting & combining 2 different models so it would have an engine bay, somthing I have never even thought of doing, let alone attempted. Plus, being that it’s inside the firehouse, I’d have to make it between at least 2 walls (the corner of the building shown in the movie scene.
Then I recently thought of this scene:
A little easier to make since I wouldn’t have to chop up any cars, & I would only have to worry about making the front of the firehouse up to about half of the 2nd floor (slightly above the Ghostbusters banner), and I’d have that sweet convertible caddy to build later on.
I’m guessing foam board for the firehouse structure unless you have an extra Kenner laying around to customize, but that would be a little big…
Are you doing the inside, outside, or both w/ a missing wall to view inside? Maybe a shoe box as the foundation and then glue the detailed foam board to the box, give it some stability and a skeleton…
Just some random thoughts off top of my head, happy to watch this unfold!
This sounds good as far as a concept…looking forward to seeing this unfold…but just for future reference easy off oven cleaner will remove the paint on a model without melting the plastic…might come in handy .
I’m gonna be going either one of the other. My brain is telling me to do the outside display since I would be somewhat easier & no major alterations would be needed for the car. But my heart wants to do the inside, I’d have to do some never attempted bodywork but if it comes out like I have it pictured in my head, it would be a lot more rewarding!
I would loose the ElDorado, but I already have a bunch of other models still in their boxes that I want to do. I would’nt get a chance to get it done anytime soon anyway. But in the plus side, I’d have some good extra parts to do the Ecto-1 & 1A.
I’ll keep it in mind, I used Pinesol after looking for tips online, but I guess since it was painted & primed with household & automotive paints it put up a fight to come off. I know better now, now I have the power of Airbrush!
