Original Ecto-1 model

Hey guys,

I’ve heard rumors of a mysterious ertl AMT Ecto-1 that exsisted for a short period of time before the 1A model came out, but I have never seen hide nor hair of it. Do any of you modellers/or Ecto fans know if such a car ever exsisted or have any photos at all? It’s obviously impossible to find one.

Just a curiousity I’ve had for a long time. I have 1 built 1A, just ordered another 1A kit, and have an unmade polar lights Ecto 1 which I’ll be starting soon.

If we’re talking plastic kits, I’m not aware of any Ecto-1 models that were released prior to the Ecto-1A kit. As far as I’ve been told, the first was the Ecto-1A released through Ertl, and then a pretty much identically scaled Ecto-1 kit by Polar Lights two dacades later. After that, there was a metal Ecto-1 that had a Ertl logo on its boxart if I remember correctly.
