Original RGB Promo and questions.

Hello everyone I finally saw the origanal promo for the RGB cartoon and was wondering under that arraingement with Slimer and Stay puft still being the enemy and the guys still wearing the tan uniforms were any episodes ever done that way but never released or just done that way for the promo commercials? I grew up watching the RGB and loved every bit of it and was heartbroken when it went off the air but I guess in retrospect I never did like the different color uniforms. I guess I never minded the Spud being the firehouse pet. I mean what the heck it was only a cartoon. I still will always love the earlier seasons better. They were better written and more fun to watch. Ohh well.

The reason they change the show in the later seasons was to make it more “kids friendly”. ABC (I think that’s where the show originally aired on) decided to hire a company to check and make changes to all the cartoons to make it more “kids friendly”.

I do like how it was originally was done though.

If you watch the special features that are on the 2 disc dvd set of Ghostbusters, there’s two RGB eps. The first one is “Citizen Ghost” which explains the new uniforms while rebuilding the firehouse right after fighting gozer, as well as why slimer is the ‘house pet’ as you put it. “Partners in Slime” is the other, where they use leftover slime from fighting Vigo, to help rescue louis and Ganine from boss pozo who’s a (I beleive) Class 7 entity who wants to take over the ghostbusting business so he can be the ‘ghost father’. They cover peter in slime to give him limited ghost-like powers, and he works with a lower class who’s a worker of pozo that the GB already caught, named Shifter.

and that’s all the 'splainin I gotta do.

OK you guys I think are alittle confused. I have those episodes you are talking about. Im asking have any episodes ever been shown that were done where the characters look the way they looked in the promos? Ray had like black hair and heavier in the face and winston looked alil different and that Slimer and stay puft were bad guys. Do those episodes even exist or those shots in the promo were just drawn up for the commercials? Watch the link and thats what Im talking about

Well, when they walk into the firehouse after beating gozer, they’re wearing their original colored uniforms and they’re all covered in marshmallow, if that helps any. Asides, slimer never really was a bad ghost, just confused. I never got why the stay puft marshmallow man was in the cartoon.. Technically he was gozer and was destroyed and/or sucked back into his dimension when the boys won.

did anyone else catch the ecto flying through the window in that vid?

Yeah, that was a “WTF” moment. lol

Which was funny because, even as a kid, I thought the later shows got stupid. Particularly the last, if not the last two seasons. Particularly that episode where the Ghostbusters had that race with the cheesy vehicles and Slimer was even driving an ice cream truck. I mean come on!..

That was something else I never understood. The slime in the cartoon was yellow rather than pink. Must have been legal reasons, like the change in the characters’ from the movie to the cartoon? But then again

the RGB ECTO-1A had pink slime on it, so I don’t know. :?

Legal reasons? I’d say it was just a mistake by the art department.

Probably.

One thing I liked better at first was the Proton packs in the promo. I do like how the action figure packs kept this design, as it was overall a more believable pack. The pack in the show is still great and all but the first rendition looked a little more film accurate.

I think the colors of the suits were used as a way to tell all of them apart. It’s a basic animation rule to have a different color for each similar character, and to have bright colors in general (i.e. the final RGB packs with red/yellow canisters/yellow hose). This was one of my fave cartoons, and still is after all these years.

yeah, cartoon makers all thought we were too stupid to tell the ghostbusters apart in their tan uniforms… Ironically, Ray had a tan uniform all the way through… just with darker trim…

*Heh - If you guys are enamored with the promo - Wait till you see these:

whoa! Venkman’s head got a makeover after that first picture…

nice contribution ectofiend!

as far as using slimer in the promos as “a bad guy”, they probably just needed a ghost that was easily identifiable to kids, probably same for stay puft…

Perhaps we’ll get more of this promo stuff in the DVD boxed set, that’d be great.

Yeah, you’re right, I can’t remember, I think the original idea for Slimer was for him to not be a pet. Like looking at the promo, then the Real Ghostbusters first series Slimer figures which looks mean and has mean box art and is billed as “Green Ghost” May have been early on.

*Another Slimer promo image  …Though I don’t believe the Stay Puft bag was part of the original design…I think I still have the “Slimer style sheet” around here somewhere with thos images on it, however I’m having trouble locating it :sigh: …

*Cheers.

*It goes from yellow to deep red, which is obviously closer to the light/dark pink we’ve all know and love…

*Cheers.

For anybody curious, here’s the promo commercial I came across on Youtube:
