Pack Paint.....

What type of color do most people use on their packs? Flat black or a glossy black?

Flat black here.

My 1st was painted glossy, and it just looked too…“New”

Semi-Gloss.

I use satin black, its kind of a happy medium between flat and glossy.

Flat black.. and then flattened even further with light sanding.

Some people recenty have used a hammered black finish, but that still looks too glossy to me.

I was thinking of making it glossy to make it look new but could i sand it down and make it look worn?

flat black

I used Krylon Fusion. Its kind of a mix, but more on the flat side.

Glossy paint makes every single flaw stand out 500 times more.

I Agree. Go with flat black.

i like the semigloss or satin look. its just flat and gloss enough. my first 3 builds it was flat, my last bunch were satin. i’ll be sticking with that.

I’m using a semi-gloss on mine. Or I was anyway - haven’t had time to work on it in forever!

Krylon BBQ black works great, kinda between flat and satin, plus its high heat which is good for a nuclear accelerator

Do you guys ever get the paint on your pack looking like it’s still wet in some areas, and like it’s really flat in others? I’m usimg a semi-gloss, and am not sure if I just need to do another few coats or what. Guess I could sand it and just paint again.

Shane

Weather it out… you’ll be adding weathering anyway, right?

Krylon satin black w/ a single coat of Krylon crystal clear satin on top.

I find that this happens if I paint over any glue that’s on the surface. Even if it’s just a trace amount or a smear, it makes the paint look super glossy.

Yeah, guess I could do that… and the bumper and other parts will cover some of it anyway.

Uni - I don’t think there was any glue there, but that’s an interesting point, and something I’ll be watching out for once I start using any glue - if any at all.

on my last pack, i used rustoleum hammered finish followed by a topcoat of rustoleum semi-gloss black.

IMO, semi-gloss black is still too shiny and needs to be flattened out both with fullers earth and perhaps a matte spray.

on my next pack, I will definitely use satin or flat black.

these are the paints i used on my build and the finish was fantastic

so good infact i didnt want to wether it lol

the grey was primer

the silver was alloy wheel paint (nice finish) looks very metalic

and the black was a satin matt black, not too shiney but does reflect light

to the guy who said he was getting “wet looking” areas

did you give the pack a light sand and wash before painting? and a light sand between coats?

some paints need a key between coats or it just sits on top and doesnt dry in too well

i know the alloy wheel paint i used was very metallic/shiney as it was a finish coat so i had to sand it down a bit for the black to really grab it.
