I’ve just changed over the hose from the pack to the thrower for the second time. The original one I had on there was around 4 feet (1200mm), which I found out was to short. Comparing it to the references on here. So I went out and bought some more split loom and made this the 5 feet (1500mm) that it recommends.
Now, maybe its just me but it seems to look so long. Bare in mind I still haven’t received the dixie bracket to put the thrower on the pack. So that might make it sit properly.
Anyways, I just wanted re-assurance that the 5 feet is def accurate to the films? I’m around 5’ 9" - 5’ 10" in height, so would that be around the right size? Also can you guys recommend anything else to bulk out the hose but still make it sit pretty good? The vinyl tube I had was too firm and made it sit real weird. It put strain on the thrower handle.
Sorry to post this if its all been answered before.
did you go with split or unsplit loom? unsplit tends to be a bit more stiff, so the need for an inner tube to give the hose some shape really isn’t needed as much, though personally I usually have so many cables and wires running through that hose that they do a pretty good job at keeping the hose pretty stiff as is.
As for length… I usually eyeball it. Attach the hose to the thrower and hook the thrower to the pack. Then, with the pack on your back, slide the hose in and out of the hole you’ve made for it in the pack. Once you have the hose at a length that you’re comfortable with, wrap some tape or use a ziptie to mark how far in the hose needs to go.
Yeah, my hose is shorter. Possibly shorter than the hose in the movie, I haven’t really measured, but I didn’t want to have a bunch of extra hose flopping around and getting in the way. I’d say this would be one of those instances where you can adjust the hose to fit you personally. Unless you want it to be 100% accurate, but like I said, this is (IMO) one of those instances where comfort trumps accuracy, especially if you are going to be doing events in your costume.
To be honest, you need just enough split loom so you have enough slack to unhook the wand from the pack, that’s it. 99% of the time, I see people with hose that is WAY too long. How long does that come to? I never really measured but I’d say it would be close to 4 feetish.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I ended up eyeballing it. Seems to be the go. Also i swapped out the split loom for splitless. Everything sits alot better.
Splitless is the way to go!!!
Cheers

You’re totally right…but this is defiantly one area for me where splitless wins over accuracy. Even with the tape wrapped around the loom its still frigan annoying! If you have lots of cables running through it like I do, it just pushes open 0.o
I recon the main reason they would have used it was it gave them quick and easy access to working on cables and electronics in between takes
