I recently bought a shell from a friend and i tried using truck bed liner like i saw in another thread as a texture and idk what went wrong but it just looks like sandpaper wayyyyyy to gritty anyways its a resin shell would anyone know they best method to remove the paint so i can just start over ive been sanding at it but it seems like theres no end to the maddness :walterpeck:
Try some nail polish remover and a coarse side of a sponge and just try to rub as much of the paint off as possible. If the nail polish remover isn’t strong enough you could buy some straight acetone from Home Depot, but I urge you to be careful because the acetone can eat away certain resins and cause warpage so dilute with some water if neccessary. Truck bed liner is heavy duty so your going to have a hayday getting it off, but nothing some elbow grease can’t fix.
or you could sand it off with 150 grit sandpaper.
Start off with a low grit and work your way up. An electric sander helps too.
Thanks guys i tried with goo off,nail polish,remover it took a little bit but not enough to make an impact.
so i went at it with a 400 gritt and wet sanded the heck out of it and then hit it with 2 coats of filler primer and it smoothed pretty good i think after i put 2-3 coats of paint on that it will look great,

high heat grill for the pack
hammered for the cylco
satin for the gun

Some packs are shiny, some are dull, some have hammered texture, and some are smooth. Make it your own.
Ha. I’d never have thought to use bed liner on a pack. Yeah the texture would suck, but it would be nigh indestructible.
You’re going to need a heavy-duty automotive solvent. Not sure if that will mess up the shell, but it probably will.
I think it was cyland props who i saw use the bed liner, i think i must have gotten a different brand or something cause the texture looked like sandpaper almost.
I ended up redoing the whole thing with bbq black and ive got it weathered a little bit still need to dry brush it.
Please dont drybrush it. That weathering looks great as is.
Thanks your like 45 minutes too late tho lol , i only did a light dry brush for the corners just to give it a little wear, nothing heavy!
Well if you’re happy with the way it looks thats all that matters at the end of the day. Its just that Ive seen packs in the past with really over the top drybrushed on silver that ruins an otherwise great build.

Not all bed liner have sucky textures; I did some tests recently with an old can I had laying around the house and came up with a texture that reeeally looks like the one on the screen used packs. But yeah, some of them look too grainy, you just have to test them before using them on your shell.
Aluminum plate, no primer, 2 thin coats 5 minutes apart. Nice even matte black finish, and tough as all hell.

I’m really dragging my feet on finishing my pack’s paint job (using your method!) - Am trying to figure out a nice method for texturing.
The ceiling/wall texture just looks too bumpy to me. The test you posted here looks exactly like what I’m hoping for.
