Hey all, does anyone have any pro tips or advice for me regarding painting an RGB ghost trap toy? I know painting plastic can be problematic sometimes. What kind of paint works best? Do I need to do anything to prep the trap to receive the paint? Any advice on how to best achieve weathering effects?
hey man just got done painting my trap i used a black flat spray paint gave it two coats then i used testor model paint silver and yellow and mine came out fine
I haven’t yet painted my trap, but I’ve been looking into it.
Looks like “Krylon Fusion” brand spray paint is the best, as it is designed for plastic. GBFans.com
In terms of preparation of the plastic, it seems none is needed. HuntedWumpus said that he didn’t sand his before painting. GBFans.com
I think I’ll at least give my trap a through cleaning, and remove the stickers before painting.
Finally, Vinster said in the first post I linked above that if you paint the pedal, it doesn’t really dry properly. I don’t know if anyone has found a solution to that.
Also, DO not paint it until you are sure you want to do that. The RGB traps are coming a bit harder to find, and they are quite nice in their original colors. If someone argues that thy should be black, you can tell them that they are vintage traps, and therefore are blue..
Still, if you wish to paint it, take it apart, wash every piece, then trim some flashes from the molding to get even seams, and then use primer, then top coat of paint, and DO remember to check the instructions on the paint cans, you DO NOT want the paint warping due to too fast painting.
I just painted my RGB trap, and it was pretty simple.
To weather mine I gave the entire body a coat of silver paint, then dabbed mustard on the areas I wanted to appear worn. The great part was that a lot of the edges had big nicks and were worn away from all the years I abused it as a kid, so I knew EXACTLY where to weather!
After I put on the mustard, I just hit it with a few coats of black paint, waited for it to dry, and rubbed the areas with a cloth. I think it turned out pretty good.
Wow my first post but anyway. But I found my trap today. And I am gonna go by this topic and all your tips but Im looking forward to see how it turns out.
