Peter Vincent props

For those of you (lucky) people who haven’t seen the new Fright Night movie, lemme give you the rundown: The dialogue was awful, the story was HORRIBLY put-together, Colin Farrel (or however you spell it) was laughably bad, and David Tennant was hilarious, even badass at times. He sure as hell wasn’t Peter Vincent, but whoever he was playing, he was a joy to watch. So, seeing as how I enjoyed his character (not the film), I decided to put together a Peter Vincent costume for Spooky Empire’s October convention coming up in two weeks. This was a late addition to my intended costumes, so I didn’t have time for the coat to be accurate unfortunately, but I knew I had to have the Stake Gun, and the Shotgun. However, as I do not possess any pump-action shotguns, and didn’t wanna shell out hard-earned money for an airsoft I was going to destoy to make this prop, I decided to attempt a scratch-build. This is the result:

I used the trigger, trigger guard, pump-grip, and handle from an old toy shotgun of mine, two metal pipes, and a sheet of easily shapable aluminum. I simply cut and shaped the aluminum to the appropriate shape of a shotgun, added a cut-off piece of the toy shotgun to the side to act as the shell ejector, secured the two pipes as the barrels, cut the handle into the “sawn-off” style, affixed it to the body of the gun, secured the pump-grip to the lower barrel so it can slide freely back and forth, and attached the trigger and trigger guard to the bottom of the shotgun’s body. Then I painted it black, used gray paint and sandpaper to age the gun to look weathered and slightly uncared for, and wrapped the handle in athletic tape as a grip. For finishing touches, I used scrap metal from the aluminum sheet to make a loop which I affixed to the lower barrel to secure a strap to it (clipping the other end of the strap to the trigger guard), and then used the remaining scrap metal and a keyring to make the cross Ornament and attach it to the tip. Hope ya like it!

Nice! Now you gotta build Ash’s double barrel to display along side of it!

Ok so the building continues in preparation for Spooky Empire next week. I have modded one prop and scratch built another.

First up is the ancient dagger:

I modded a toy dagger that was originally an ugly gold solid color. I shaded the gold and scuffed it to make it look old and a bit more real, painted up the handle brown, and the handle-guard gray, as well as distressing the entire weapon.

And this is the Stake Gun:

While this is NOT the stake gun used by Peter in the final fight scene, it is based on the design drawn in Evil Ed’s journal earlier in the film, and I ended up with the pieces to make that one better, so I ran with it. Its just some PVC piping, an old wooden gun I used parts from, some empty CO2 canisters and two wooden stakes. Overall I think it came out pretty damn good and the arsenal is definitely exceeding my expectations.

I’m very much looking forward to showing the whole getup off at Spooky Empire next week, hope you guys like the stuff sofar, later!
