Picked up this replacement antenna...

Managed to get an antenna on eBay for my MT500:

I know it’s too long and not 100% screen accurate, but I’m planning to cut it down to the 3" size of the movie antenna, so it should be a close fit. Quick question: anyone have any idea how I trim it down without ruining it completely? The radio doesn’t work, so it’s just for visual effect.

Cheers!

That larger piece on the end is called an end cap.

Pull it off.

Hacksaw the entire thing down to size.

Replace end cap.

Thanks for the info! As soon as the antenna turns up I’ll cut it down to size and post pics on here of the finished radio.

Just had my MT500 replacement antenna turn up, and wouldn’t you know it, but the screw fitting on the end is too short to screw into my radio!

Anyone have any thoughts on how to attach it?

glue it in

Great idea. Any thoughts on the right sort of glue to use? It would need to be strong enough to stick the rubberized plastic of the antenna to the metal section on top of the radio.

can’t go wrong with two part epoxy.

Thanks for the ideas! I ended up using super glue (which was all I had) and it seems pretty strong. Will post pics later…

Hmmm… why can’t I attach a picture to a reply on here?

Can’t believe how helpful everyone is one here! Cheers, folks. Here’s the link to pics of my MT500 Radio with cutdown antenna:

Only thing I need to do now is cover up the etched in text on the front of the radio. Picked up this MT500 on eBay, but there was no pic of the front. Any ideas?

If you can find a holster for it, that will hide the text.
