Pneumatic gun barrel in GB1

I had a concept for how to do this a while back as well. Not sure yet if I’ll try to implement this on my pack or not.

I’m more concerned with getting the electronics right. Extending the wand is of lesser importance to me.

But I did do some thinking about it and came up with a concept for how I might want to accomplish it…

Haha thats how i was thinking lol, its amazing how we all seem to think alike when it comes to these

i was thinking really simple today

Need to draw my idea out but its really simple, really simple and it may work

sort of a combination of your catch and a rod and springs

is that a challenge?

Ladies . . . don’t get in a fight. Take it outside!

Sure. It may even lead to something positive to offer.

Not a fight at all burkit. Vinny knows where I stand on certain issues and I tend to speak up when I need to call someone out on something. I invite everyone to share their ideas on this matter and I will be sharing some ideas of my own in the future. We need less “your props suck” comments around here and more people making the effort for themselves to give something back. Offer ideas to better others work rather than tell people it’s wrong or junk.

We know its the lever that pops the gun barrel physically, but it appears that they are at the very least trying to give the appearance in the film that rotating the grip is what pops the barrel. Kind of like the PKE. We know the wings on the prop are being physically raised by a partially hidden wheel, but it’s SUPPOSED to be the PK energy thats making the wings go up. So which is easier to achieve with the least amount of parts? Making the barrel pop the way they did it PHYSICALLY, or the way they are making it APPEAR that its popping? Seems to me the grip twist is the simpler way to go. As it’s been said, the fewer parts the less likely the system will fail or need regular maintenance.

There is actually a scene in Ghostbusters 1 when Ray steps out the elevator.. you can clearly see him press the green lever and the tip pops up while making an audible clunk. No handle twisting at all.. also I think judging from the small amount of lever movement and quickness or the tip ejectulation.. that it was probably a spring, and he was releasing a catch.

Actually you are wrong on several points, the PKE meter has a touch sensitive switch to make the wings rise, the half seen dial makes the lights sequence faster or slower.

A twisting barrel set up is going to be more complicated than a hook and spring in the end and just as, if not more, prone to failure. It really doesn’t get more simple than flicking a lever with your thumb.

Yup, that’s what I’m trying to achieve. It will probably be another 2-3 weeks before I actually get my set up done, because I’m waiting on a new front handle assembly to come so I can put a twisting grip on my gun along with the green lever spring-loaded mechanism for the clear tip.

Just the same, there is a dial doing something that is supposed to be happening due to PK energy. It’s still a “how it physically works” vs “how it was supposed to be working” situation.

However as Mr Quick just pointed out the switch can in fact be seen triggering the barrel pop as Ray exits the elevator…so lever it is. It still brings about the question of what purpose the rotating grip serves. Is it simply there so that the user can position the forward grip into the most comfortable position possible?

Basically, yeah that’s what the majority of people believe now.

It is easier (more comfortable) to have to front handle rotated upwards a bit while your pulling the green lever.

No new work has been done to my extending tip mech. however, this thread explored my idea as well as many others that may help the good fight here. Doing what I have in mind to would require me to take a lot of stuff apart and I really need the energy and time to finish this beast up.

I always thought it was for comfort.

The handle can also be locked into place by tightening the set screws.
