Protective Coating Question

I’m thinking of adding a clear coat to my pack to protect the labels, autographs, ect. My pack is painted with flat black (I know it’s not accurate but I really don’t want to repaint it). Any who, my question is should I use satin clear coat to make the pack look more accurate or play it safe and stick with the dull coat? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, I just figured I would ask it here before I did anything drastic. I feel like if I chose a satin coat I would have to remove anything on the pack that I didn’t want to look satin so that might be more of a hassle than I want. Any advise would be great.

(since the pic was taken I have updated my labels so I wanted to preserve the new ones, not the ones shown)

Im assume you are going to break it down . . Remove hoses, cable ,etc. . As a clear coat wouldnt adhere very well to those . . If you use a flat clearcoat and finish after a couple mist coats with a heavy wet coat it will dry to a finish very much semigloss. . If the labels are both aluminum and vinyl I would use a coat of bulldog adhesion promoter . . Then the clear . . The bulldog is made for bare metal /plastic . . . Hope this helps. .

Thanks! My labels are vinyl and foil, not sure if the foil would need any different treatment. I would attempt it today but it’s raining pretty hard here so I’m going to have to wait until it clears up. Thanks again for the advise!

I would test to make sure the solvents in the spray won’t affect the ink in the printed labels..

Good idea, I have a few spares lying around so I’ll test it out on them first. Thanks
