I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I was wondering if anyone knows a website that sells the white army surplus pistol belts at a decent price and without 8-10 dollar shipping for one belt! and also i was wondering if anyone knows a good online place or even a store other than your local plumbing store cuz we don’t have those we only have a lowes and homedepot by me. But like any actual well know stores that might have the acrylic tub for the end of the gun since radio shack no longer has the on for running wire through a wall. Thanks a bunch for reading this.
Oh and another question. Does anyone know why the belts for the newer alice frames are fatter then the ones used in the movie mine are about 2+ inches wide and in the movie they seem to be a little over an inch. Were they thiner years ago and the more modern ones are thicker or did they change the belt on it for visual purposes?
i ment the clear acrylic tube for the end of the gun i haven’t seen it at either store durring my searches. Am i missing the section its in? and if so can someone tell me where the usually found? Thanks
I got my belts from Andrew Christian over at Amazon. He has a storefront there. He sells a lot of military surplus stuff. I bought the white pistol belts and dyed them pearl grey using the Rit dye of the same name. I just checked over there, and he’s selling them for $4.50 and shipping to my zip code was $5.61, so $10 even. Pretty good IMHO.
I’m almost positive that neither Lowes nor Home Depot carries acrylic tubing, or even anything like it. I’ve tried, and no one had any idea what I was talking about. They’d all think I was talking about clear vinyl hose (the kind that people sometimes use to add flex to the split loom that connects gun to pack).
The only place I can suggest would be a plastics supplier. Look under your local phone book for one (some likely phone book categories might be like “Plastics-Fabricating, Finishing & Decorating” or “Plastics-Rods, Tubes, Sheets, etc” or “Plastics-Scrap”: your phone book might word categories slightly differently, but you should be able to find one easy enough). If you can find one locally, that would be your best bet. You’d probably have to buy a minimum order, though.
and to GBCam Mine alice frames only have the one thick belt and ones surplus and the other is army issue given to me by my cousin but if you look at the frames in the movie they only seem to have the thin belt which i found odd that mine were both so big. And now to find out that they also have kidney waist belts with two straps thats another odd one in my book lol Oh well im sure everyone looks fine and that everyones more interested with the huge thing strapped to you back as oppose to the waist belt. OH and by the way I LOVE THE RGB trap conversion! They needed you there when they first designed the toy!
Back in 1983 when the movie was filmed the military just had a tiny belt on them.
Over the years the belts changed for better reliability and comfort. If you look at GB2 reference photos of this compared to GB1 you’ll see that the belts have changed again. You still can get the GB2 style belt, that has the grey plastic buckle. The newer black buckle on ALICE frames is easier to use, so that is why the military has them now.
I also will be selling 5-6" cut, beveled, and frosted acrylic tubing. I’ve also come across 20 Legris 5/32" Banjo Elbows, which look JUST like the ones in the movie, except the tube insert isn’t red and is like a mm bigger, but psh, a little paint fixes the color and the tubing will fit either way. I also have 19 Legris 1/8" male connectors that look really good. In getting pieces that are “accurate”, the illusion does fine. These pieces aren’t that much different anyways.
I’ll post pictures of everything later when I have more time. Probably within the next week or so. Mid-terms are coming up so I don’t have too much time immediately.
