This neck roll seen worn here is bothering me.
It’s a semi hero pack , most clearly identifiable i would suggest any the Makita battery pack.
However, we know the semi hero packs were zip tied grey thinner foam.
Soooooo, what’s this about?
It’s tricky to tell if it’s black or a very dark grey, going on a less desaturated/yellow photo:
With that said, I had a look in the reference gallery and the foam in that publicity photo looks pretty similar to the foam on the Zeddemore semi-hero: LINK
I think I’ve seen the grey zip-tied foam you’re talking about, do we know if that’s how they were back in 1988/1989, or is that a more recent variation?

Yea, if you look at when theyre wearing the semi hero packs ypu can see theyre makita batteries with grey thunner foam and zip ties. The proton pack detective videos also shaved this which is why I also knew.
This seems a much larger round foam unlike any of the other semi hero packs. I wondered was it something thrown on when they were doing the publicity shoots post production perhaps?
Forget it, I’ve duped myself. The refrence library shows them.with these rolls.
Though the number 6 semi hero does have the grey foam and ties.
