Rebuild of the dreaded 2023 FUN.com / Halloweencostumes.com pack

Here is a 2023 halloweencostumes.com pack that I just finished rebuilding.

You remember the pack. Sticker instead of powercell lights. SLO BOL decal on the wand. Molded in bumper…

I basically ripped this thing apart and rebuilt it.

Here is the pack now:

Here it is at the start of the build:

The Powercell sticker. Yeah. That was pretty bad.

The bodywork was extensive. These packs are made of heavy flexible vinyl type material, so I used auto body filler used for plastic car bumpers. I added lot of lights. A bluetooth speaker. ALICE frame. Hasbro 1984 wand with a keep alive kit.

I had to make some of the aluminum and copper parts myself because this pack is oversized. I’d say it’s probably 110% scale.

Everything, including the wand is powered by 12 volt batteries. It will run for days on a single charge, even with the rumble feature running all the time.

I really like the end result.

I know it is not “screen accurate”. I restore cars and build hot rods. That was how I tackled this project. This is my “Hot rod” proton pack.

Well, that’s pretty much it.

For sound I soldered wires to the wand speaker that go to the bluetooth speaker. That will do for now.

I have a few more plans for this pack.

I do have a second one of these halloweencostumes.com packs. I paid 200.00 apiece. I already added a powercell light, added a Haslab Spengler Wand and did a repaint on that pack. I have been using this pack if there is a chance of rain. I live in the Pacific Northwest.

I am going to modify my Spirit Pack next, then do the halloweencostumes #2 pack.

I pre-ordered the Haslab 1984 pack. I will probably strive to make that pack screen accurate.

That’ll bring my total up to four packs.

Is it possible to have too many packs?

I dunno.

I thought someone might like to see what I did with one of these “hated” packs.

One more thing:

Just in case not everyone is familiar with the 2023 version of these packs, here is a pic of what it looked like when I received it.

The powercell sticker is visible, as is the molded in bumper.

The wand on the pack was terrible IMHO.

I am not impressed with the straps that came on the Rothco A.L.IC.E. frame.

I am sure if you have a Rothco frame with heavy pack you know why.

The straps loosen too easily and aren’t comfortable.

I just bought some used LC-2 straps.

I am really impressed with the quality.

Should be a big improvement.

I will post another pic when I get them installed.

I can’t wait to test them out.

That’s an impressive rebuild!

Thanks! It’s been a lot of fun.
