RGB/ EGB/ MOVIE Proton Pack .STL files (needed)

Greetings and hello to everybody… A short while back, I began contemplating the use of a 3D printer to make proton packs in different size scales for my figures.

I was going to take 12 specific Gi Joe 3.75 inch figures from the Rise of Cobra line, 12 plastic green army men w/flamethrower, and likely my Kenner RGB figures, to create fully cartoon and show accurate characters with show accurate gear!

Im currently looking at a 3D printer that also has a 3D laser scanner function in it, and might even take the figures that I have in mind, plus the play doh RGB ecto-1 and make replications of them for each uniqe diorama setup!

Still with me? Good!

The RGB play-doh ecto-1 is almost perfect for a 3.75 inch gi joe figure to stand beside, and still be in relative scale…hopefully the software will allow me to scale the figures to match the ecto-1s size a bit better

My hopes would be to do the following dioramas:

Diorama #1: RGB play doh ecto-1(3d printed), painted black w/ gray spots on it…and a scaled to size gi joe (peter and ray) to stand by the car!

Diorama #2: RGB play doh ecto-1 (3d printed), painted to detail of ecto-1 from movie, and 4 gi joe scaled to size with equipment, to stand by the car!

Diorama #3: RGB play doh ecto-1 (3d printed), painted to match RGB ecto, and 4 gi joe scaled to size figures with RGB equipment to stand next to the car!

Diorama #4: RGB play doh ecto-1 (3d printed and modified) painted to match EGB ecto, and 4 gi joe scaled figures with equipment, to stand next to the car!

Diorama #5: Kenner RGB figures (3d printed x12) modification to one set to make cartoon accurate RGB, one set for cartoon accurate EGB, and the last set for movie accurate figurines! All gear will be 3d printed to scale for the figures!

Diorama #6: flame thrower green army men (3d printed) modified with RGB, EGB, and Movie version equipment (3d printed and glued to each figure!

Added parts of each diorama would be items ranging from Stay Puft, The firehouse, slimer, and maybe added figures of Janine and Louis pending the diorama…

The upside is that Gi Joe’s can be posed in any position, and custom head sculpts can be ordered on ebay to match each character within reason, give or take some modifications…

The downside is that once that poseable Gi Joe is laser scanned, the printed version will NOT be reposable…so needless to say, pick a pose that is iconic and yet easy to paint!

The hard part is getting my hands on some .STL files of the iconic equipment that the guys and gals used in each version…

The 3D printer Im looking at uses .STL files for printing, and I cant seem to find ANY STL files on the internet for each Proton Pack incarnation… :frowning:

So being that this is a community of GB fans, and some of you if not most of you may have the technical know-how to help me out with providing a fellow GB fan with .STL files of the following equipment:

-RGB Proton Pack

-EGB Proton Pack

-Movie Proton Pack

-RGB Proton Gun

-Egb Proton Gun

-Movie Proton Gun

-Movie PKE meter

-RGB PKE meter

-EGB PKE meter

-RGB Ghost trap

-Movie Ghost trap

-EGB Ghost trap

Im looking for one series equipment to be completed at a time, so RGB proton pack and gun, RGB trap, RGB PKE…the EGB, then Movie stuff…

A clever thought I had, was to use the green army men custom GB’s as pawns for a board game like monopoly, or getting creative with he ideas and making a Ghostbusters Chess set! the white side would be the ghostbusters, and the black side would be ghosts! Cool thought huh?

Of course I can make other things other than ghostbusters…but thats best left to another thread in another section!

In the meantime, I just really need the STL files of the equipment, the rest I can handle…I think.

Oh, and to anyone that actually likes my ideas on dioramas for display…anyone that helps me with providing STL files of the needed proton packs and gear, will get first choice of the final production setup, for FREE!

99% of the people here that build their own gear do so using the techniques used in the original movie IE: hand building using power tools, fiberglass and aluminum. What little 3d modeling of the equipment that has been done has been mostly for the purpose of creating plans and templates and I’m not sure how easily those could be converted to files usable by a 3d printer. There have been more people recently printing some parts of various equipment so you might get lucky.

This is really ambitious, and it sounds like you haven’t had much experience with 3D printing. As someone who’s messed with them for about 12 years, you might want to get experience with them to better realize your expectations and the limitations of 3D printing.

If you’re really looking for the 3D models and have 3D experience, STL format won’t matter. Think of STL as the equivalent of saying you only want a PDF over a Word document. Instead look for any 3D Models you can get and if you’re going to scale them, you’ll need a 3D software (I use 3DS Max). After scaling, run an STL check and export your models as STL in the software. Simple as that.

Thanks for the criticism on my idea… However, I was able to locate a 3d file in still format of the movie style proton pack…that part is completed as to my needed items!

Now, as for the xyz 3d printer I am looking at buying…it does NOT just print in 3d, it has the ability to scan an item with lasers, and then print that item to the specs of it’s original scan!

With that ability, I could make a model of a proton pack, then make a 3d scan of it, re scale it, then print it.

Sure I could familiarize myself with 3d software…but I also thought I could start a group project of collaboration to get this done for the better of the community!

I’m not asking for the key to the city here, just some teamwork like the gb team!

Is that too much to ask for? If so, then just tell me so I can deprive my friends here of a cool display setup!

If I’m misunderstood, I’m sorry, but I didn’t expect to be virtually told NO to the request of help! Know what I mean?

No one told you No. Jack was pretty clear in that 3d modeling hasn’t been used much around here yet. SpaceCoastGBs seems to have a lot of experience with 3D printers and he seemed to be trying give you some helpful info.

It looks to me like you didn’t get handed exactly what you want and you are getting a little upset about that and taking it out on members of the community that have offered their input.

We have people sign up for the site from time to time and do what you have done. Sign up, make a thread asking for info, and get mad when it’s not handed to them. You’re best bet is to let your thread live more than 17 hours before you start accusing this community of not using “teamwork”.

Take a breath, look around, use the search function in the upper right of the screen. You might be amazed with what you can find.
