After tossing around a few ideas a decided to do a scaled movie pack for my stepson. He has a RGB pack but it’s time he graduates to busting with the big boys. I started by printing Stefan’s plan to the scaled size through ms paint. Turned out to be 84%. I also plan on making another full sized pack for myself so I printed 1:1 scale for myself.
I then made the cyclotron using cardboard, bandsaw, posterboard, and aluminum tape.
That’s all I got done today, I spent about an hour and a half on it today. Hoping to have at least two more parts made tomorrow. I will be fiberglassing it and using filler and sanding it when everything is made.
Ok, so today I finished up the cosmetic plating and glued everything together. My shell is now starting to take shape. I’m going to take a few days off since I’m starting to rush things (made a few simple mistakes today). I’m going to resin some test pieces next week to figure out my method of doing this.
I’m finally ready to start applying the fiberglass to my pack. I have the next 6 days off work so I’m hoping to have it fiberglassed, filled, and sanded and ready for paint this week. I very pleased with the progress so far. Thanks for the positive comments, it’s very motovational.
I really don’t know how the fiberglass is going to go so I threw together a quick thrower with mocked handles. I’m going to fiberglass this first. I’d rather ruin a gun I have an hour invested in instead of my pack that has several hours.
I put a coat of resin on the gunbody, hope it turns out ok. If anyone has fiberglassed cardboard before, I’m open to suggestions I have my own idea for doing this but not sure if its going to work.
I fiberglassed and resined the pack and gun body. It turned out good but definitely learned a few lessons. The pack twisted slightly but after some tweaking I got it straight again. Hopefully get to do some filler and sanding tommorow. Sorry for the dark pics, my phone takes crappy pictures in thee garage.
Did some filling and sanding today. I also made the cornor piece but its not pictured. I need to get some paint but I hope to have it painted by Monday.
I threw a quick coat of paint on my pack to see how it covered which was pretty good. A few more coats and a few more parts left to make. I’m starting to see it.
I made the booster tube today. It was nice to get back to work on this pack. I couldn’t find something the exact diameter to use so I had to make the tube myself using a pencil, cardboard and posterboard. Hoping to finish the booster frame tonight or at least ready for paint.
