I just found this video that shows some great details on a screen-worn GB2 Spengler flight suit, pads, and gloves:
That’s interesting, it looks like they took heavy duty leather gloves and sewn “sleeves” onto them to make them look more like chemical gloves? I never noticed that before in the film.
I knew the gloves were longer in GB2 but the ones in the YouTube video look almost custom made… or can you buy gloves like that?
I’m curious about the back of the suit. A year or two ago I was approached to purchase a suit from GB1 lineage, up close you could very clearly see that it was production made but there was a problem with it. As you can see, it had a giant GB logo on the back.
I spoke to a few different folks who worked on the film and they all said that they’d never seen a suit like it being used during the film but that it may have been a sample suit (concept suit) that was ultimately passed on by the costume department.

Woah, those gloves are nuts. I’ve never noticed that they were leather with rubber sleeves. That’s some food for thought. I wouldn’t mind wearing those instead of just plain chemical gloves that make my hands damp.
Over the past few years, I’ve learned to take the Prop Store with a grain of salt, though. It’s good do do your own homework to double check what they present.
Well, on-screen the gloves do have two different textures (from the cuff to the wrist the gloves have a gloss finish, while the entire hand has a flat finish). I always assumed that they were rubber gloves with a no-slip grit texture on the hands. I’ll have to go check the DVD to see if I can spot any of those thick seams around the fingers.
…We REALLY need GBII on Blu-ray. :sigh:
I agree. Sigh…still wishing for it…

Aaaaand now I MUST have gloves like that…
I might try to make some screen caps of the video later today. The gloves definitely look like those in the movie; as we’ve seen with the custom black belts, the wardrobe department wasn’t opposed to using mixed materials.
Besides, leather gloves will always be more comfortable than the standard chemical gloves.
**Update - **Well, some of the best close-ups of Ray and Winston’s gloves are during the sliming of the Statue of Liberty, and the shot of the NES controller. There are no visible seams that I can pick out, and there is wear on the finger tips that seem to indicate that they are rubber gloves with textured hands as I thought…
That said, the best close-ups of Peter and Egon’s gloves are during the museum battle, specifically whenever Peter is holding Oscar… In these scenes Peter and Egon’s gloves very clearly have the thick seams on the fingers. At first I figured that it was because the rubber gloves would be too abrasive for handling an infant… but that doesn’t explain Egon’s gloves… nor the hints of seams on Ray’s gloves during and after the battle…
…And then there’s Luis… whose gloves appear to be standard, non textured, chemical gloves (like the ones used in the montage)…
So, my hypothesis is that these are stunt gloves designed for the repelling scene… …and/or general baby wrangling. ![]()
Well I think I may have an answer for the different gloves in the museum scene to the statue scene.
I do alot of climbling which ultimately leads to alot of abseiling. In the final battle scene we know the Ghostbusters abseil into the museum and it was actually done by the actors themselves. They would have needed something other than rubber gloves to use on the rope whist descending due to the friction needed and the rubber glove would not have withstood the friction caused by the rope. That is probably why the glove had leather hand pieces with rubber upper arm sections. Purely to use on the rope when abseiling into the museum but not to take away from the look of the glove.
Hope this kinda explains the difference in the gloves.
Looks like Ill be picking up some welding gloves from work.
Im glad we got some close ups. This is great. ![]()

I know, I said that in the very last sentence right above your post (though I did spell “rappelling” wrong, see quote below).
I wasn’t taking away the credit from you, just comfirming that it was the reason for the glove.
No prob. I was in the process of editing it to read like this…

But it looks like I wasn’t quick enough.
Anyone get any screen caps on the gloves??? I feel the strong need to make these…
i dont know how much this shot helps for the gloves, but it’s from gb2
i only ever thought they were rubber gloves for both movies.
i really need to sit down and watch that movie i have too many outstanding questions, but it’s just so painful to watch.
