Shell and Wings

Im a new guy around here and my rgb pke toy from when i was 8 just isnt cuttin it any more. I have an iona shell and the wings. i have yet to sand it all the way down or cut out for the screen. hyperdyne is not for college students who work part time so i want to build it myself. if anyone has an idea of the parts id need to buy to get this sucker movin lemme know.

Go with a VEX servo and gear kit off of RadioShack’s website, that’s what I’m going to use for my PKE meter.

Hey what a great idea! I forgot about their cool new big boy toys! What kind of controller would you need, do they sell that too?

Im on the tail end of budget pke.I am using a motor and two small gear boxesfrom lego to power my wings. A bit big but its gonna work.I have a led chaser kit I bough from All Electronics Corp and some leds i bought also from them and the square ones I got off of ebay.

This is the gear box I am using

If you want pix ask Its 2 early to get the camera out now

They should sell everything you need. All the VEX goes together with itself. I’m also thinking of buying a microcontroller (Which is 80 bucks but I get a 30% off :D) and then use my own wires and led’s, and make my own pack kit, just because it’d be a better feeling of accomplishment.

thanks, ima get crackin as soon as i can pick the stuff up.

I just got an IONA for halloween. I am just going to take out the insides for right now and spray paint it black. I also made a stencil of the wings and I’m going to just glue some foamboard ones to the side for some effect for halloween.

I’ll get some pictures, even though I know for a fact it’ll look crappy as all ■■■■. Budget! Hooooooooo!!!

I have three big projects ahead of me though, which I hope to keep a REALLY detailed account of.

  1. The full replication of a RGB PKE, complete with a full listing of every part, where to get them, how much, and how easy it was to complete.

  2. Conversion of a toy RGB Trap into a spray painted “movie” one. One of my friends is going to one of the best special effects schools on the East Coast - Tom Savini’s School for Special Effects.

  3. One of the CHEAPEST, best looking ways to create a proton pack for halloween. (READ: ultra lightweight, cool looking, dirt cheap, a project any ghost head can slap together in a weekend!). I’m going to refrain from using duct tape in this, but lord help me - it is a budget pack!

what do you guys use as a controller circuit for the servos? I mean, how do you wire it so that the servo goes one way with one button, then the other with another button?

I’m very novice when it comes to this and I’m very curious about it.

I think VEX has a controller for like 39 bucks. I know the stuff was on clearance and is web only now because nobody bought it, so it should be on the cheap cheap.

They have a lot of good stuff, including a dual servo controller that’ll fit in an iona.

I checked out the servo city website, can you name the exact servo’s and controller for the PKE, I’m not a huge elctronic person, want to know exactly the right thing to buy!
