So all my gear has been destroyed or lost and I need to start over from scratch. Right down to the boots.
I’m not going to go through the headache of trying to build a pack out of wood ever again… so I want to just BUY one.
Saw this Bob’s Props pack that uses the MattelNeutrino Wand. Seemed really awesome, but some people have said to avoid it for some reason or another.
Well it’s the best looking one I could find, so I’m at a loss. Where SHOULD I buy a pack from? I was stoked at it all just being done with from shape to lights to sound.
Look at the Feedback area and find this info shown below. If you are going to be spending a good deal of your money on something, It is in your best interest to research the seller.
If i was going to spend over $2-3k, id want an aluminium thrower. A pack built better then i could make. Someone who knows the little details that makes the pack stand out. Matty wand should be for fan built packs not buying a professional built one. I like the matty wand and thought it was great for the $130 price tag. It makes building the pack funnier because your not obsessing over every detail. If your wand isnt movie perfect dont need to stress about the pack being perfect. Plus if use a matty wand you have to have the spongface board, Which i assume bobs doesnt. Id look for a builder in the forums first. The anovos pack is an option. Not sure what the pack will be like, but being a Ghostbusters officially licensed pack is worth something to me and probably worth something if you had to resale it.
There’s a lot of negative feedback in here, but very little of it seems to have anything to do with the pack itself. I’m sure I ‘could’ build a ‘better’ pack. There’s a lot of things I could do if I had the time and attention-span to do them lol
All I’m concerned about is the value of the pack.
Why is the Matty wand NOT a good idea?
What is NOT right about his packs?
It seems like people have issues more with the person, than the product… If I’m reading all this correctly.
The matty wand is a really cool toy, but when you have it in hand that’s exactly what it looks and feels like. For $1500+ I would want an aluminum or resin kit thrower, something more solidly built with accurate lights and details. The reason people are being dismissive without going into detail is you can go to the feedback forum and read through the post re: Bob really easily, it’s pinned.
I was going to write a detailed post of what I thought, but here’s the condensed version because this stuff has been hashed to death.
Matty wand: Toy, plastic, no moving parts, plastic switches and buttons, amature sound and lights. What’s wrong with it on a proton pack? Nothing, but why would you pay TOP dollar for a pack replica with a toy?
Pack:
You will get a proton pack, the parts are not detailed or accurate to today’s standards.
He uses “Hot Glue” to simulate weld lines but it just looks like blobs of hot glue
The labels are not accurate to today’s standards.
Some parts like the beam / line tubes, and the vac tube don’t have base plates; not accurate to today’s standards.
You don’t get a real “V” hook to mount the thrower on, its a bracket from an office water dispenser.
All the greeblies on the pack such as the clippard valves, elbows and resistors are not the actual things (which are easily available and not too expensive) They are subpar plastic copies. Why would a top dollar pack not include the real things when they aren’t too expensive and available. The real resistors cost like $20 total, and the clippard valve costs $35 why don’t you get the real parts on a $2,500 pack? To cut corners.
Is it a proton pack? Yes. Is it “good enough” where the public won’t care? Probably. Is it worth what you pay for? Probably not. Will you end up wishing you had nicer parts? Definitely.
FYI, my first pack was a Bobs kit that I built myself and I’m not ashamed of it. I ended up building a whole new one because it wasn’t good enough in my eyes. Save the money
Im not sure, I’m not new to the site, but new to the forum. From what little i gathered bob was accused of reproducing somone else’s props. Not really sure about any of the details, but you probably wont get much love from gbfans if you show up to a con wearing his pack..
His pack seems pricy for what your getting. However i dont really know what commission builds cost.. Anovos has a kit available now but im sure they’ll release complete packs for preorder soon. Probably better and cheaper than bobs. Id wait to after comic con and see. Id try a gbfan builder first
I really like the matty wand. Have it on one of packs. It was good for the Initial price. Its just not that accurate. To the elite builder, it be like slapping Ferrari emblems on a Pontiac Fiero. Again nothing wrong with the mattt wand, just not what id expect from a high dollor pack. I have More of problem of how much you’d pay for a build with a matty wand, then fact of having a matty wand on your pack. people probably hate on the matty wand, but im sure the real super elites would hate on LED lights telling you need incandescent . got to draw the line ofyour obsession and wallet

They are vastly overpriced for the level of quality you get. The Anovos kit is, by far, a superior product to anything Blob is capable of at a fraction of the price. There is literally no reason to buy Blob’s over Anovos.
Never buy a Bob pack. They’re way overpriced and the quality of the parts on the pack are sub par to say the least.
There’s nothing wrong with the Matty thrower, hell, I used it on my latest pack, but also in conjunction with the Gbfans pack light kit and Spongeface’s adapter board, something you won’t get in a Bob pack (unless he rips off the board like he did most of his parts). You’d be paying two to three times what the value of his wares are actually worth
